Tessa and I were walking down the hallway. I was not really sure where we were going. Not like it really mattered.
"I gotta say, I'm impressed." I said to her.
"With what?" She asked me a little confused.
"With you. Most people in your spot would be Jello right now, but you're taking this pretty well. Maybe a little better than me." I told her truthfully.
"Don't get me wrong. I was pretty freaked at first. But now, I don't know. Maybe I'm dealing." She answered me.
"So, you're okay with dying?" I asked her very confused by what she had just said to me.
"No, of course not. I just think, whatever's gonna happens gonna happen. It's out of my control, it's fate." She said to me.
"Well, that's cramp. You always have a choice. You can either roll over and die or you can keep fighting, no matter what." I told her.
"Room 237, code blue. Dr. Kripke to room 237, code blue." A female voice said over the intercom.
I started to run down the hallway to the room in crisis. I looked in the room to see the same spirit was hovering over a little girl, who was being resuscitated. It reached out its hand to her face.
"Get away from her!" I yelled as I lunged at the spirit, which just flat out vanished.
The nurses stopped resuscitation.
"All right, let's call it." The doctor said. 'Time of death, five eleven p.m."
"At least she's not suffering anymore." The nurse said and I looked at her shocked.
How could she say that? This is a little girl.
After the little girl I wandered around until I found my way back to my own room. I did not have too much time on my hands to think. I was only in the room for about three minutes when Sam and Eve walked in.
Sam was clutching onto a brown paper bag.
"Hey. I think maybe you're around." Sam said to me and I let out a sigh of relief.
"And if you are, don't make fun of us for this." Eve told me.
"Well, there's one way we can talk." Sam said as he pulled out a box.
I walked over to read the label. It said "Mystical Talking Board."
I stood behind the two of them with my arms folded. I did not know if I wanted to yell at them or laugh.
"Oh, you've gotta be kidding me." I say to the two of them.
Sam walked around the bed and sat cross legged on the floor. Eve sat down across from him. He opened the box and pulled out the board.
"Dean? Dean, are you here?" Sam asked me.
"Good, I feel like I'm at a slumber party." I said as I sat in between the two of them.
"All right guys. This isn't going to work." I tell the two of them as I watch them place their hands on the pointer.
Even though I was telling them this would not work I hoped it would. I placed my hands on the pointer. The second I did Eve took in a deep breath as if she could feel me. I looked back at her and smiled. I could not help but think how I really messed up when I let her go.
I looked back at the pointer and concentrated on moving it to yes. I heard Sam gasp before I realized anything had happened.
"I'll be damned." I said when I realized it had moved.
Sam and Eve smiled at each other for a second before looking back to the board. Sam even laughed.
"It's good to hear from you, man. It hasn't been the same without you, Dean." He says to me and Eve shakes her head in agreement.
"Damn straight." I said as I placed my fingers back on the pointer and started to slide it again.
"Dean, what? H? U? Hunt? Hunting?" Sam said as he tried to figure out what I was staying.
"What, are you hunting?" He asked me.
I slid the pointer back to the yes.
"In this hospital?" Sam asked.
"What you're hunting?" Eve asked, she sounded angry.
"Do, you know what it is?" Sam asked.
"Guys one question at a time." I tried to tell them.
"What is it?" Sam asked and I moved the pointer to spell reaper.
"I don't think it's killing people. I think it's taking them. You know, when their times just up." I tried to tell them.
Eve pulled her hands off the pointer and stood up and started pacing the room.
"A reaper. Dean. Is it after you?" Sam asked me.
I slid the pointer to the yes.
"If it's here naturally there's no way to stop it." Sam said.
"Yeah, you can't kill death." I said.
"Man, you're, um." Sam started but did not finish.
"I'm screwed, Sam." I told him.
"No. No, no, no, um, there's gotta be a way." He said as she started pacing just like Eve. "There's gotta be a way. Dad'll know what to do." He said and then walked out of the room.
Once he was gone, I looked back over to Eve who was standing there looking at the board.
"Are you still there?" Eve asked me.
I moved the pointer to the yes. Then stood up to face her.
"Listen to me Dean. This, you can't fight a reaper crap is bull shit. You just need to stay away from it and stay alive until I can get you back." She said to me.
"How?" I asked her.
"You just have to trust me. I have a plan. It will work. Just stay alive." She answered me.
I was not sure if she knew she was answering me or not, but she had a plan. This had to be a good thing. All I had to do was not die. I then looked back over to my body and realized that was not going to be as easy as it sounds.
"Crap."
