I think it was safe to say that the last 6 weeks were the longest of my entire life. And Roman wasn't feeling one bit better of course. The impatience to finally be able to tell our family was nerve-wracking. Even though we were both one hundred percent sure that Patricia knew exactly what we were hiding, she never said a word about it. Only now and then she dropped little hints, but they were so subtle, thank God, that no one commented on what was said.
But since the thing with Ava and the restraining order had worked out without any problems, both me and Roman calmed down a bit. Nevertheless, we were on guard. Especially now with a baby on the way we wanted in no case that this crazy bitch came too close to us.
Today was finally the day. It was time for the first ultrasound at the gynecologist. By now the baby was an inch tall. Still teeny tiny in my opinion, but just big enough for us to see it on the ultrasound and hear its heartbeat.
When the doctor spread the cold gel on my belly, Roman held my hand very tightly and watched very closely what was going on. No detail escaped his eyes and he wanted to know everything in detail.
"Alright Mrs. Reigns and Mr. Reigns. Are you ready to have the first look at your baby?" he asked doctor as he looked up at us.
"Yes!" we both said at the same time.
"All right then. Let's go!" he replied to the doctor with a smile.
As he moved the probe over my abdomen, it wasn't long before this little being appeared on the monitor and Roman squeezed my hand tightly. I peeked at him for a moment and immediately saw how excited he was. Of course he tried to keep his cool, but I saw it. The desire to jump up and down with joy and cheer. He would probably make up for it later when we were alone. God, he was so cute and the love I had for him grew with each passing day.
"Everything looks quite wonderful. The fetus is developed according to its age. And now we'll listen to the heartbeat," the doctor explained.
That comforted me, knowing that everything was as it should be. Our baby was doing well and was growing.
When the first sounds of the heartbeat were heard, I could do nothing to stop the tears of joy. For me it was the most beautiful sound in the world. While he still held my hand tightly, Roman bent down to me and gave me a loving kiss. First on the lips and then one more on my forehead. Tears glistened in his eyes as well. He was so proud.
"It all sounds very good, too. I'm very pleased with everything. You may get dressed again and then leave. Please make another appointment for the next time. We should see each other again in about four weeks. I will print out some pictures for you. The nurse will give them to you, along with a prescription for prenatal vitamins. And congratulations on the baby," the doctor said before saying goodbye.
The doctor had hardly left the room before I was in my husband's strong arms. He hugged me tightly and rested his chin in the crook of my neck.
"I can't tell you how incredibly happy I am." whispered Roman against my neck.
"Ditto!" I whispered back, clinging tightly to him. So engulfed with each other, we just stood there. Time didn't matter at the moment. It was just us.
"I love you, Ro!" I said as I finally broke away from him to look him in the eye.
"I love you too, Muffin. And the little bean. Too bad it's only one bean." he replied.
"Were you secretly hoping for twins? Let's start with one first, baby. Who knows what will happen the second time around?" I spoke, kissing his pouty lips.
"I like the sound of that. But Muffin, can we please, please, please finally tell the family? I can't take it anymore." he begged, making a heart-wrenching face.
"Ro, it's actually too soon for that." I said softly as I put my hands to his cheeks.
"Come on. Just the family? You want me to burst?" he replied. I couldn't help but laugh.
"All right. But when? You're leaving in the morning, right?" I asked him, giving in.
"I'm inviting them all over for dinner tonight. We'll order dinner and then we'll tell them." Roman said.
"Then call them and ask if they have time at all. It's pretty short notice," I replied as we made our way to the reception.
I made the appointment and had them give me the paperwork while Ro got out his phone and made the calls. Then we drove home and thought of a plan.
"Hello, darlings. It's good to see you, but why on such short notice. Did something happen?" asked Roman's sister Vanessa when she arrived.
"We just wanted to have a nice evening with everyone, since that's always come up short lately. Besides, we want to tell you something," I replied.
It didn't take long for everyone to arrive and get comfortable.
"Alright. now that everyone is here? What did you want to tell us?" asked Vanessa.
"As you know we had planned to have a second wedding for the family. But we have to postpone it." said Roman and immediately disappointment spread on everyone's faces.
"What? Why is that? You promised us!" said Summer.
"I know, and we will do it. But not for another year." I explained.
"And why not for another year?" she continued.
"Well, because we thought we'd have the wedding and the baptism on the same day," I said.
It took a few seconds for what I said to sink in and for them to understand what I was implying.
"Oh my God! You're pregnant?" squealed Marytza excitedly.
"Yes. We're having a baby." confirmed Roman as he put his arm around me and kissed the side of my head. I looked up at him and stretched for a proper kiss.
Roman looked so proud and relieved. Now that the secret was out, he visibly relaxed. Now we could finally share our happiness with the most important people in our lives.
Everyone cried happy tears and hugged us. I think they forgave us for the wedding thing. After all, they would get two celebrations at once for it.
"I am so happy. I'm so happy for the two of you." said Pat as she held us in her arms.
"You already knew, didn't you?" asked Roman to his mother.
"Maybe..." she grinned.
