I sat down in the car, threw my bag on the passenger seat and then dialed Roman's number. I hoped it had a moment to talk to me. Even while we were separated for just a few days, I missed him terribly.

While it rang, I put the phone in the holder and put it on speakerphone. I started the car and backed out of our driveway when I finally heard his voice.

"Hey Muffin. How are you guys doing? Where are you?" he asked.

"We're fine. Marytza left a few minutes ago and I'm now on my way to the doctor for my checkup. How are you? I miss you!" I said.

"I miss you too. We just finished working out and we have a meeting in half an hour. So far everything is fine. Don't forget to send me pictures of the little bean." he replied.

"I won't. I promise. Let me tell you, your sisters are all excited about the party. However, they are bickering over who gets the envelope with the gender. It's been pretty heated. I guess we'll have to draw straws to see who it ends up being." I told him laughing.

"Yeah... I figured they weren't going to come to an agreement. Maybe we should let mom do it." he sighed.

"That's a possibility, too. By the way I'm not the only one missing you. The baby has been tossing and turning half the night. I think it senses you weren't there. From what I've read, it can recognize voices now. So it's possible it misses your voice," I replied when I had to stop at a traffic light.

"That's my baby! Already a daddy's girl or daddy's boy," Roman said proudly.

"It was to be expected. Do you know when your flight leaves yet?" I asked.

"I tried to book a flight for tonight after the show, but there's not a flight until 9am tomorrow. Will you pick me up at the airport then?" he wanted to know.

"Sure thing! Nothing could stop me from meeting my handsome husband in person at the airport." I promised.

The traffic light turned green and I drove on, but out of nowhere a car appeared in front of me and collided with mine at full speed. My head slammed into the airbag and I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. The car spun around and I hit my head on the door. The tearing of metal and the squealing of the tires was so loud that it hurt my ears.

From a distance, I heard Roman calling for me in panic until only silence could be heard.

At some point the car came to a halt and I tried to orient myself. But everything was upside down. Had the car overturned?

That's as far as I got with my thoughts, because suddenly I heard an evil laugh from next to me. Carefully, I turned my head in the direction of the sound and was horrified. It was Ava.

"That's what happens to you when you mess with the wrong person. But don't worry. I'll help Roman get over your tragic demise and love him the way he deserves," she said in a bittersweet voice as she squatted beside the car.

Then she picked up what looked like a gas can. She opened it and poured the contents onto my car. Then she knelt down again and took out matches. She lit one and looked at me with her cold, crazy eyes.

"See you in hell, bitch!" she said.

But before she could do anything else, sirens could already be heard and they were getting closer.

"Fuck!" Ava muttered and dropped the match before disappearing from my sight.

Immediately, the car burst into flames. The heat of it fire came closer. It was so hot, way too hot.

My last thought before passing out was that I hoped whoever was coming would hurry. I hoped it wouldn't be too late for my baby and me. And for Roman. My beloved Roman.
