"Okay Princess Reigns, I really love how active you are, but Mommy really needs to get this painting done for your grandma for her birthday and you are not making it easy. Not even born yet and you're already giving your mommy a hard time." I spoke jokingly to my belly as I put the brush back to the side.
It was as if the little lady sensed exactly when I needed to concentrate and then decided to have a wild party in the womb. Of course, I could not be mad at my baby. For me it was just funny what she already noticed so many things. For example, how I talked to Roman on the phone in the evening when he was not at home. I always put the phone on speaker so our daughter could hear her daddy. And as far as I could tell, she loved his voice as much as I did.
Besides, Roman and I were quite sure that she already knew her name. Not only that, actually. Because it was that she had somehow chosen her name herself. One evening, Ro and I were cuddled up in bed talking about names for our little girl. When Roman said the name for the first time, I felt a particularly strong kick.
We tried other names, but got no response. But whenever one of us said that particular name, the baby kicked and punched like crazy inside my belly. For us it was a sign that she loved the name and so we stuck with it. We loved it, too. However, we decided to keep Miss Reigns' name to ourselves until she was born.
Which at this point was only a few weeks away. It was so unbelievable how fast the time went by. It felt like yesterday that we were at the gender reveal party. The two weeks after that, Roman was still at home with me and we started painting and decorating the nursery. But then it was time for him to go back to work. Fortunately I was doing well and was able to accompany him most of the time.
And then last week was already the baby shower. Roman's sisters did not miss the opportunity to prepare everything. As before, they had a blast and I didn't have to lift a finger. Not that Roman would have even allowed that.
We were showered with gifts and everyone was very excited about the newest member of the family. Of course, every chance they got, they tried to coax the little one's name out of us, but we remained stubborn and kept it to ourselves.
I sighed and reached for a rag to wipe my hands. At the moment it made no sense to continue painting. I couldn't get a straight stroke on the canvas because of our daughter's kicks. So I might as well stop for the day and grab a snack before heading to the airport in a few hours to pick up Roman.
Driving was something I had to work up the confidence to do again after the accident, but with the help of my husband, I quickly overcame my fear. I was determined to leave everything that had to do with Ava behind me and that included overcoming my fear.
I turned around to go into the kitchen when I saw someone leaning against the doorframe. Startled, I put a hand on my rapidly pounding heart.
"Oh Ro, you scared me! What are you doing here already, baby? Please tell me I didn't lose track of time and forget to pick you up!" I said walking up to him and wrapping my arms around his neck as best I could for the moment. I pulled him down to me and gave him a much needed kiss.
"It's all good, Muffin. I got an earlier flight and I wanted to surprise you." Roman replied and gave me another kiss, but deeper and more passionate.
"You've succeeded in that. I missed you, baby. I was just about to make myself a snack. Are you hungry?" I asked after a few minutes.
"Nope, I'm fine. I missed my girls too. Woah, what's going on in there?" he spoke in surprise as he put his big hands on the sides of the bump.
"Oh our little one has the hiccups and is also kicking a lot." I laughed when I saw the look on his face.
"Oh okay, I was beginning to think she didn't like me anymore. The kick almost hit my crotch." He muttered and I laughed again.
"Trust me, she loves her daddy. I can tell. And I love you, too, by the way. In case you didn't know that," I replied.
"That's something I don't have the slightest doubt about, Muffin. And now that I'm officially on paternity leave, I figured we could go away for a few days before... what did you call her? Oh yeah, before Princess Reigns will be born." he explained to me as he took my hand and we went to the kitchen together.
"That's such a nice idea. Where are we driving to? I assume we're driving, since I can't fly anymore," I wanted to know.
"That's for me to know and for you to find out. It'll be great, I promise." he replied with a cocky smirk and when I wanted to say something he silenced me with a kiss.
