Still half asleep, I reached over to the other side of the bed, expecting Roman to be lying next to me. My fingers, however, only brushed over the empty, already cold sheet. I opened my eyes and looked around the room, but there was no sign of him.
Slowly, I sat up and stretched before swinging my legs out of bed and going into the bathroom to see if maybe he was there. Nope, he wasn't in the bathroom either. Yawning, I brushed my tangled hair out of my face and slowly strolled through the house in search of the runaway.
Soon music and other familiar sounds reached my ears. It seems as if they would come from the kitchen. Arriving in the kitchen, I leaned against the door frame and enjoyed the sight for a little while.
Roman was standing with his back turned to me, slicing fruit while humming softly to himself. It really was so cute. And outrageously hot, because he was wearing nothing but boxers. The tight ones that really left nothing to the imagination. I had to bite my lip to suppress the groan that wanted to escape me.
I went over to him and carefully put my hands on his broad shoulders. Before I made sure that he no longer had the knife in his hand. The last thing I wanted was for him to get scared and hurt himself.
Roman flinched a little as I gently moved my hands from his shoulders to his muscular arms. I pressed my lips to his back while my arms wrapped around his waist.
"Oh Muffin. You scared me!" he gasped.
"Sorry! I just couldn't resist the sight!" I replied as he turned in my arms to look at me.
"That's what I like to hear. Good morning, baby!" spoke Roman, giving me a sweet kiss.
"Mmmh... good morning. Why didn't you wake me up?" I wanted to know.
"You looked so peaceful, I just didn't want to disturb you. I thought I'd go ahead and make breakfast." he explained.
"That's so nice of you. Can I help you?" I asked.
"Actually, no. But if you want you can go ahead and pour some coffee. When we're done, we're going to take a little trip. There's someone who can't wait to see you," Roman said.
"Who do you mean?" I wanted to know.
"My mom, of course. She's been on my case for days about when you're finally going to be here. And since I have to leave in the morning, I thought we could surprise her today. If you don't mind." he said.
"Of course I don't mind. I love your mother and would love to see her too." I replied.
"Well then, that's settled." he said as he put a plate of fruit and scrambled eggs down for me and then leaned in to steal a kiss.
A few hours later we were standing in front of Roman's mother's door. He didn't waste a second but just opened the door and pulled me in behind him.
"Mom? We're here!" he announced.
Immediately Patricia came out of nowhere towards us and just walked around Roman and pulled me right into her arms.
"Y/N, hello my dear, oh it's so nice to see you. Come in, come in. No need to stand here in the hallway like this." she babbled excitedly.
"Hello to you too, mother." Roman grumbled behind us.
"Sorry my darling! Hello my son. It's nice to see you too, of course." she said, addressing him. Then she hooked her arm with mine and walked with me into the living room.
"No one here? Funny, usually you always have the house full of people." Roman wondered.
"I know, but today I wanted to spend alone time with you two. We have so much to talk about. But first I'm going to get you guys something to drink. I'll be right back." replied Patricia.
"I'll go. Go ahead and talk. I don't seem to be important anyway." replied Roman and walked towards the kitchen.
"Roman, don't be such a drama queen. It doesn't suit you at all." his mother called after him and I had to laugh at their little exchange.
We talked with each other actively and Roman was also a big part of the conversation. I didn't want him to feel left out. Again and again he stroked my back or held my hand. Maybe he made sure that I didn't forget that he was there, too.
At some point my eyes fell on a painting hanging on the wall behind me and I remembered what Roman had told me before.
"Can I tell you that I'm really impressed with this painting, Pat. It really fits the room beautifully. You really have good taste in art." I said enthusiastically.
"Thank you so much my dear. Yes, I love it very much. But Roman was the one who picked it out. It was a birthday present. He has a painting by the same artist in his house and when I saw it I was blown away. And being the great person he is, he bought me one too. I love the colors and the energy. I definitely want more paintings by this artist, but Roman just won't tell me the name," she told me.
I smiled proudly. It warmed my heart how much she loved it and how excited she was.
"Well, I think I could help you with that. I happen to know the artist very well and I'm sure you can have as many paintings as you want," I said and Roman squeezed my thigh. I turned to him briefly and saw the smirk he was trying not to let on.
"Really? Oh my dear child, that would really be quite wonderful! What is the artist's name and how do you know him?" she wanted to know.
"Well, I'm very familiar with the works and the artist because.... well, because they're my paintings, Pat!" I replied a little sheepishly, waiting for her reaction.
"Are you serious? Roman, you knew that and didn't feel the need to tell me. Oh well wait, young man!" she scolded him in a loving way.
Then we all started to laugh heartily and enjoy the rest of the day. We cooked together and talked about everything that came to mind until it was time to go home so Roman could do his daily workout.
All the way home we laughed at Patricia's expression when she learned that I was behind her beloved painting. It was just too funny.
But as Roman pulled into the driveway, we both spotted a car parked at the curb in front of the house. A sinister-looking man in a black suit leaned against the car and watched as we got out.
Then he came over to us and took out a brown envelope.
"Roman Reigns?" he asked.
"Yes, that's me. What do you want here?" Roman wanted to know, sounding very suspicious.
"You have been served." the man spoke, handing Roman the envelope and walking back to his car.
"What's that all about, Ro?" I asked as Roman opened the envelope and read through what it said.
"I'm being sued!" he muttered.
"What? By who?" I asked, shocked.
"By Ava!" he replied, looking at me just as shocked.
This really couldn't be true.
