17 Too impatient

As soon as Roman turned the car into our street, an annoyed and disappointed groan escaped him. We had both been very much looking forward to an evening together. Just the two of us and our bed.

But by the looks of it, our family didn't grant us the victory celebration, because there were several cars parked at the curb. Actually, we should have expected it. Of course they wanted to know how the thing had turned out. And apparently they were too impatient to wait for a call from us.

"Aw, man. This really can't be happening!" Roman groaned as he parked the car.

"That was kind of to be expected." I laughed, even though I didn't really feel like it. I was as disappointed that our celebration had to wait as Roman was.

Now we could only hope that the family wouldn't stay too long and we could enjoy our togetherness before Roman had to leave again tomorrow morning.

"I should demand my key back." he grumbled.

"It's too late for that now, unfortunately. They just want to know what happened today and you know how nosy they all are. I'm sure it won't take long." I tried to cheer him up.

"Muffin, you know as well as I do that once they show up, it will be hours before they go home again. I wouldn't be surprised if Mom had already started cooking dinner for everyone," he explained.

"Yeah... you're probably right." I admitted and sighed as we got out of the car and walked into the house.

"There you are at last! Spit it out, how did it go?" asked Roman's sister Vanessa as soon as we walked through the door.

"No one in this family seems to think it necessary to greet anyone properly. Good to see you all. I hope you made yourselves comfortable." he said.

"Yes, yes, hello Roman. Hello Y/N. But now please tell us what happened!" she replied.

"All right. The matter is off the table. The doctor confirmed that neither the letter nor the signature were from him. And under pressure from Mr. Mendes, she caved in and admitted that the whole thing was a lie. She was never pregnant," Roman explained, and immediately everyone broke out in cheers and hugged us with joy and relief. It was a load off everyone's mind that the story with Ava had now been cleared up.

But of course we didn't get away from them that easily. They wanted to know everything down to the smallest detail. And just as Roman had predicted, Pat had already started cooking.

After Roman and I had changed into casual clothes and freshened up, we told them everything that had happened. The more time passed, the more clearly I noticed how impatient Roman became.

Eventually he managed to convince everyone that we had had an emotionally exhausting day and that he needed to pack because he was leaving the next day.

Luckily they were very understanding and made their way to the door where we said goodbye.

"Thank you guys for being there. I really appreciate your support and I love you guys. But now I want to spend some quality time with my wife. Bye!" he blurted out.

All of them suddenly stopped in their tracks and turned to us, totally perplexed. With wide eyes they stared at us as if they had all misheard.

"Now you've spilled the beans, baby," I muttered to him.

"What was that just now? Did you say what I think you said?" asked Summer.

"Um... not the way we wanted to tell you, but yes we are married." Roman replied, putting his arm around my waist and pulling me to his side. I wrapped my arms around his middle as he planted a kiss on my hair.

"Oh my god, this is amazing!" his mother cheered, surprising us. It was her reaction we were most afraid of. All in vain as it seemed. Because Patricia came to us and pulled us both into her arms.

"You're not mad?" I wanted to know.

"Y/N my child, how many times do I have to tell you that you have always been a part of the family? Now it's official. I'm just mad that I wasn't there. But you can make up for it. And you should make up for it unless you want me to get mad at both of you after all." she replied with a smile.

"Thanks, Mom," Roman said softly.

"You're welcome, son. Are you happy?" she then spoke. I looked up at him at the exact same time as he looked down at me smiling.

"Very happy." he replied, squeezing my hip.

"That's the most important thing." said Pat.

After everyone else congratulated and hugged us, they finally headed home, leaving me and my husband alone.

Before I could say anything to him, he had already lifted me into his strong arms.

"All right, Muffin. Now that we're finally alone.... how about our little celebration?" he whispered with his lips very close to mine.

"Mmmmh... it's about time, I'd say." I replied softly as I brought my hands up to his face and pulled him closer to me.
