SaphNo matter how much I was looking forward to the ceremony, I was relieved it was over. Getting used to the fact that I was now a married woman would take me months, because I doubt it's going to sink in any time soon.
Gathered around the bar of the hotel while the poolside was being converted into the reception space, we finally had some time to relax and chat with our guests. Maeve was mostly calm, having her cranky moments every now and then, but she was an absolute angel. She was mostly passed between Maura, my mum or Kris who all insisted I didn't hold her for long to avoid getting my dress dirty or stained.
It was odd not having her in my arms all the time, because I was definitely used to that. Almost for a year now, I haven't left her for longer than a few hours. I rarely went to any of the bars anymore. Kris had taken up the manager job mostly on her shoulders while I helped with whatever I could from home. I went on tour with Niall for a few weeks, which was definitely exhausting but so worth it when I'd get to have both of them with me. So it was definitely odd for me to not interact with my daughter much the whole day.
But I tried not to think of that and focus on having fun. After all, tonight was a once in a lifetime experience. I really did mean the 'till death do us apart' thing and I was willing to do anything to keep our relationship strong like it has been for almost a decade now.
Cameron swooped into the group of a few of Niall's cousins we were currently talking to, bringing Maeve along and handing her to Niall. She giggles with excitement, like she always does whenever she sees her father. She was the biggest daddy's girl already, always clinging to him rather than me. But I've grown used to it. Maybe part of the reason why was that he would usually be away for long periods of time.
"Hey, how's it feel being a married woman?" Cam asked, coming over to stand next to me. The two women we were talking to politely waved and said they'd talk to us later before walking away.
"I don't know Cam. I'll inform you when it sinks in." I shrugged with a smile I was unable to wipe off my face from the moment I stepped away from the altar. Cameron then turned to Niall, anticipating an answer to the same question.
"Oh, being a married woman is great." With a sarcastic, proud smile for his joke, he raised both eyebrows as he looked between both of us. I almost laughed, but stopped myself from doing so and just dramatically rolled my eyes at him.
"For her own good, I hope your daughter doesn't get your humour." I teased, though I was saying that just to pick on him. And I was so happy that after so many years we were still able to mock and tease eachother with sarcastic comments.
"For her own good, I hope your daughter doesn't get your humour." He contradicted, pinching my side. I flinched away from him a bit too late, smacking his shoulder with the back of my hand.
"Ow! Rings." He whined, pouting his bottom lip out.
"You put them there!" I laughed, shaking my head at him. During all this, Maeve was dozing off with her face burried in his neck, sucking on her pacifier.
"Do you two ever stop acting like children?" Cameron complained, rolling his head back.
"No." We both said simultaneously, catching eachother by surprise. Cameron scoffed, rolling his eyes and shaking his head
"Why do I even hang out with you?" He muttered, rubbing his forehead with his hand. I was ready to respond to him in the exact sarcastic manner he'd expect me to. And I would if I hadn't realised that he was practically by himself all day.
"What happened to your plus one?" My question had him dart his eyes to mine, a bit of a nervous look on him. When I told him he was more than welcome to bring someone a few months ago, he said he definitely would. But I haven't seen him talk to anyone else besides our family and Niall's old friends who stuck together during cocktail hour.
