Tay stretched as she exited the car. They had to drive three hours to get to the restaurant Hayley had made reservations for. She wanted to be sure no one would recognize them.
"This better be worth the drive Williams." Tay said jokingly.
Hayley laughed and linked their arms together. "It is. I promise. Come on."
They both walked up to the entrance. Tay looked around. It was a lot nicer than anywhere she had ever been.
"Do you have reservations?" The hostess asked.
"Yes. They should be under Williams."
The women looked down at her booklet and then looked back at them and smiled. "Yes of course. Right this way."
She lead them out through the back of the restaurant and onto a patio. There was one table illuminated by candlelight, set for two.
"I know it's kind of cheesy but-"
"Shh." Tay silenced her and then pecked her on the lips. "I love it. Thank you."
They smiled at each other and then took their seats. The waitress handed them their menus before scurrying off. She came back moments later with a bottle of champaign.
"Our finest bottle, as you requested." She poured them both a generous amount before leaving again.
"What? They don't check ID's here?" Tay asked before taking up her glass and looking at the liquid inside.
Hayley chuckled. "I may be just a teacher, but I know enough people to get what I want, when I want it."
Tay took a sip of her drink. It tasted a lot better than any other alcoholic beverage she'd had.
"Mm, what are you? In the mafia? A secret spy?"
They both laughed. "No." She said and suddenly she was very serious. She grabbed Tays hand and looked directly into her eyes. "I'm just in love with you enough to make things happen."
Tays lips spread into a wide smile and she felt her stomach flip. She looked down and their hands and blushed. Hayley smiled at the reaction it caused in Tay.
"You're too cute." She said before pulling her hand away and picking up the menu.
Dinner passed slowly with casual chatter. Nothing was rushed and they didn't have to hide. They wanted that feeling to last forever. But sure enough, dessert came and went and suddenly they were back in Hayley's car.
"Do you need to go home?" Hayley asked. It was late and it would probably be around four in the morning by the time they made it back so Tay shook her head. "They probably think I'm with Jenna."
Hayley nodded. "Okay. Then you're coming home with me to cuddle. Did Jenna like her present?"
Hayley had helped set up the scavenger hunt all around town and even helped get the present that Tay put at the end of it.
"I don't know. Let me see." Tay pulled out her phone from her purse. She had put it in silence so her and Hayley's date would go undisturbed. When she unlocked the screen she saw several messages from Jenna.
From Jenna: Are you serious right now Tay? This isn't a dream?
From Jenna: Holy crap I can't believe this.
From Jenna: And you wonder why I love you? Stop being so damn amazing.
From Jenna: Call me when you can. Im freaking out and I want to know how your date went.
Tay laughed at how quickly Jenna changed from excited crush to best friend.
"Oh yeah. I defiantly think she liked it."
Hayley smiled. "Good. She's been seeming kind of down. Her grades were dropping at one point."
Tay nodded. "Yeah. A broken heart will do that to you."
"Well hopefully now she'll get better with some best friend time."
That wasn't the idea of Tays gift to her. It wasn't to make her feel better. She didn't think she could do that. It was more of an apology. She wanted to say sorry for not being able to return her feeling but she also wanted to give her as close as she could to happiness.
"Yeah. Hopefully."
Tay texted a quick message to Jenna even though she knew she was asleep.
To Jenna: I'm glad you like it. Prepare for our movie marathon tomorrow. I'll tell you about my date and the plans for your gift then. Sleep well Jen.
Tay yawned after the message sent and laid her head on Hayley's shoulder. "Sing me something?"
"Like what?"
Tay shrugged and nuzzled into her girlfriends neck. "Anything."
Hayley flipped on the radio and turned it down so it was just audible and quietly sang along to the string of pop songs that followed each other.
Tay closed her eyes and listened. She had a beautiful voice. It was smooth and soothing. Within minutes it had pulled her into sleep.
A/N: did anyone guess what the riddle was last chapter? I thought it was pretty clever.
