You found yourself with an awkward situation. You lived not too far from a mountain shrine that had unfortunately been washed away in a rainstorm a while back. The resident miko there, Shirakami Fubuki, stayed over at your place while repairs were being processed due to your closeness to the shrine.
It has been a month since she lived with you. You respected the kitsune and as such, gave her some space, though she doesn't seem to mind your presence. You felt rather enraptured with her cute voice and fluffy tail... Hell, this entire situation reminded you of an anime you watched about a kitsune living with a human, in which fluffing up the kitsune's tail was a recurring thing... Though you were too nervous to be ask her if you could do that...
At least until tonight.
A few hours ago, you had arrived at your house in tears.
"Huh? Is something wrong?" Fubuki asked you. It was one of the few times you and her had shared a conversation. And this one would change your relationship with her.
It took you a while to say something comprehensible to her, but the most you got out was that you got scammed out of your money. Well, the bank that was holding your money just up and skipped town when you came to withdraw it for rent. You were rather surprised with how Fubuki held you tightly in her arms.
You were just a host for her, nothing more, and yet here she is, nestling you like a friend. And when she heard about your banker, she gave a soft smile and asked:
"Do you know where they are?"
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
You recalled your banker talking about wanting to relax at a hot spring close by. At first, you passed it off as nonsense, but now with your money gone, it was definitely a hint to what they intended to do with your money.
As soon as Fubuki spotted the banker as per your description of him, she immediately entered the room he was in.
"OIOIOIOIOIOI! What do you think you're doing?" This was a side to Fubuki that you didn't see before. She sounded so nice and happy beforehand, but now she sounds not unlike a punk. At first, the banker had no idea who she was, but as soon as he saw you, he shook.
"F-fancy s-s-seeing you here!" He sat back down as Fubuki inched closer to him.
"I believe you owe my friend here some money." Fubuki said as you were tempted to hold her back before she did any serious damage.
"Oh! T-that... Well, you see... I spent it all... It's gone." As he said that, Fubuki just shouted.
"OIOIOIOIOIOI!" She was dangerously close to touching him. You felt the pit of your stomach rising up to the top.
"You have to understand... Running a bank is very expensive so I had to take interest! P-perfectly legitimate!" You felt cold as the banker explained why your money was gone. Though, the pit of your stomach was saying something:
He's full of shit.
"So... Why don't you run along before I call the authorities?" He said. Fubuki calmly sighed.
"Well, I guess I'll just wait here until you cough up the money." Fubuki said.
"Uh, Shirakami, I think we should-"
"No no no no!" She brashly shook her head. "We're staying." Fubuki had a smile on her face the whole time. She patted next to a spot next to her. Feeling unnerved, you sat next to her. Her fox tail landing right on your lap. Immediately, the soft fur on your lap put you at a little bit of ease. "It'll be fine, don't worry. Here, pet my tail." Fubuki said to you.
"You... You sure?" You began to shake.
"Yes. I want you to be calm, okay?" Fubuki said reassuringly. With a deep breath, you felt up her tail and... Holy shit.
That anime wasn't kidding when they said that a kitsune's tail was super fluffy. Stroking it instantly broke any sort of stress you were feeling, smothered any urge to personally beat up the banker, and allowed you to relax. This lasted for fifteen minutes before...
"Wow... Okay, you're giving me the creeps, you conniving..." The banker stood up and was about to get his phone out, only for Fubuki to stand up.
"Woow! That's an attitude you got!" Fubuki's sudden shout caused the banker to drop his phone in surprise. "You'll pay with your life." As she said that, you suddenly stood up.
"Wait! Fubuki! You can't just..." But it was too late as Fubuki took out a katana.
"It's time to test the sharpness of my blade. Please become rust on its steel." She then smacked him with the blunt of her sword, giving a stifled laugh before she continued. She took a solid three minutes slapping him about. One of the managers of the hot springs went in, ready to break the two apart, but the moment he noticed Fubuki's foxy ears and tail, he immediately backed away.
Perhaps the reason he chose not to engage with her is due to how kitsune were closely tied to deities and that he didn't want to piss them off. As far as you were concerned, this was a matter of divine proportions.
Throughout those three minutes, Fubuki turned the small sauna into an area, smashing the banker across the room though being careful not to actually damage the room or even disturb the coals that kept the room hot.
"Alright! Alright! H-here!" The banker shuddered before handing Fubuki his wallet.
"How much did you put in?" Fubuki asked you.
"Erm... 45000 yen..." You muttered. Fubuki took out several notes, paused, then took out a few more.
"That'd be interest." Fubuki smugly said to the beaten banker before she left with you following her.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
You and Fubuki returned to the apartment as you held 67500 yen in your hands. This was more money than you have seen in your life and the worst part was that you weren't sure whether or not this was legal.
Though, that quickly went away when you handed 22500 yen over to Fubuki.
"Here you go... You need it more than me." You said. Her eyes widened as she took the money.
"This... This is enough to pay off the rest of the repairs!" Fubuki said.
"It's... thanks for helping me with the money. And..." You blushed as you had a realization. As you stared into the icy blue eyes of Fubuki, remembered the feeling of her fluffy tail and saw her cute fox ears wriggling, you knew what you wanted to say next. "You've been a great person to have at the house. I... I think... I like you." As you said that, she immediately blushed and shook her head.
"Nononononono! No waifu! You are my best friend!" Fubuki said. You gave a chuckle. In spite of that torpedo to the heart, you soldiered on.
"Yeah. That's what I meant..." To be fair, she was a good friend to have regardless. You gave a pause before you saw Fubuki smile.
"Once I have everything set up at the temple, you should come over! It's going to be storm proof so I don't think I'll need to worry about it falling apart any time soon." Fubuki said.
"Yeah, I think that'd be wonderful." This night changed your relationship with Fubuki from just housemates to full on friends, with Fubuki pampering you whenever you have a rough day and you helping her out when she has a rough day.
She was truly your best friend.
