"Can we hang out tonight?" I ask Jake on the other side of the phone line while brushing my hair in the mirror.
"I have plans with Tara." He says quietly.
"Oh." I look down at the brush in my hand and then at myself in the mirror. "That's okay then."
"I'm kidding." He says. "Of course we can hang out tonight."
I sigh and roll my eyes. "I mean I wouldn't have minded if you did have plans with her, I totally understand."
"Nah I don't, she's hanging out with a couple of her friends so I'm all free!"
"Ok cool! I reply with a smile on my face. "Did you want to come here or me go there?"
"Come over to my place! Sam and Kat are here right now and they wanna say hi." He says.
"We do want to see you!" I can hear Kat yell in the background.
"Okay!" I laugh. "See you soon!"
"Bye Ken." Jake replies before hanging up.
I smile at the nickname that he had randomly started using recently. Lots of people in the past have tried to call me Ken and I hated it.
But when Jake says it, I don't mind... as much.
I finish brushing my hair and taking one last look at my outfit in the mirror:

I make it down to the parking garage of my apartment and hop into my car.
Quickly shuffling my playlist, Give It To Me by Timbaland came on, instantly nodding my head up and down to the beat. My phone dings, interrupting my jam sesh for a quick second.
Colby whatcha doin today
Seeing his name gave me instant butterflies, quickly biting my bottom lip.
Kendall going to hang out with jake, why? miss me?

I put my phone down and begin driving to Jake's.
About 20 minutes later I thankfully find a close parking spot and make my way up to the apartment.
"KEN!!!" Jake engulfs me in the biggest hug I've probably ever received once he opens the door.
