"I'm glad we got to hang out outside of work." Jackson says.

Kat had asked me if I wanted to go to Sams apartment with her after being at the pier, naturally I said yes.

"Yeah I had a lot of fun, we need to do this more often." I smile.

He turns his head to the on coming traffic. "This is my uber." He gives me a hug before getting in and heading off.

"I actually drove here." Kat says. "But we're going to wait with Riley."

"You guys don't have to wait for me, Colby should be here any minute." She looks right at me as soon as she says Colby's name.

Also, as if on cue, Colby pulls over in his red corolla. He rolls down the passenger window and looks at us.

He has a surprised look on his face when he sees me with them.

"Hey babe." She gets in the car and kisses Colby, kind of extra.

"Bye girls! Thanks Kat for the night, and Kendall it was nice to meet you," She waves at us before Colby drives away, without saying a word.

"Okay then." Kat looks at me awkwardly. "Let's go."

I walk with Kat to where she parked.

"I didn't know you and Riley were close." I say once we get in the car.

"We're not." Kat sighs.

"Then why were you hanging out with her?" I roll down the window as she gets on the road, letting the ocean breeze run through my hair.

"She was having 'boy problems'" She puts air quotations around 'boy problems'.

"What do you mean by that?" I smile.

She turns her head, giving me a 'do I really have to explain' look.

"Colby, I'm assuming." I say. She nods her head.

"So." Kat takes a deep breath. "Her and Colby used to be so good together. Like, really good."

I roll my head around to face her.

"I was even jealous of how cute they were."

"What happened?" As they say, curiosity killed the cat.

"Well, he went on that trip with the boys." She looks at me and waits for any kind of response. My face just remained the same, still and serious.

"So pretty much." I look back out the window at the cars passing by us. "It's my fault they're having problems."

Kat doesn't say anything so I look back to her.

"I never said that." She says, "But, something on that trip changed Colby."

"Me. I changed him." I can feel my stomach churning.

"In your defense, even though I may have thought Riley was good for Colby," She pauses as we turn into the apartment complex parking. She parks the car.

"What?" I motion for her to continue.

"Sam never did."

I cock my head to the side, confused.

"What I mean is, I may have thought they were good for each other, but Sam knows Colby better than anyone. If Sam thought Riley wasn't good for him, then maybe she isn't."

I unbuckle my seat belt and sigh heavily.

"How do you know that?" I ask.

"Sam told me! I'm his girlfriend, duh." She laughs and I join her.
