Chapter 14: Happiness

I sometimes listen to this on repeat

No romance.

After being on Doflamingo's ship for so long I almost wanted to join the crew. They looked like a fun bunch that was nice but I knew looks could be deceiving

I woke up in the middle of the night to hear the birds chirping as I looked up to the elegant moonlit sky. It was a full moon, the day those scars were given to me. I shivered while looking at the moon. How white it was....like the knife that wrote on my skin

How illuminated it was...like the room I was tortured in. I refused to be weak in front of anyone. I already made that mistake with Corazon and I deeply regret it. I cannot show my weakside to anyone or they will take advantage of it. It is simply intelligent and would protect me from harm in a lot of ways

I see a flock of birds flying by illuminated by the pale mOoNlIgHT ( REFERENCE!!). I noticed the back part of the flock started slowing down, probably exhausted from flying. Suddenly, one of the birds started slowing down to the point that the other birds were about 100 meters ahead. I felt sorry for the bird for I knew what would happen

. I can relate to that bird. A child of the world exhausted by flying to avoid danger. Exhausted of flying with no purpose. Exhausted from flying with no birds around itself. Exhausted of loneliness. Exhausted of fear.

Exhausted of remembering. Sometimes, I wish my memories were wiped out completely so I wouldn't feel the pain I feel. But then my conscience tells me such wishes are unwise since wiping my memory would rid me of any good-natured people I met on my journey

As much as I hated to admit it, that small part of me is definitely right. Without meeting the woman, I wouldn't have met Corazon- or Ace, Sabo, or Luffy. Or even Doflamingo and Law for that matter. Doflamingo has this mysterious 'don't mess with me' kind of murderous aura despite his constant show of smiles. I bet he thinks they are kindly looking but in truth, they look pretty damn creepy

Doflamingo was definitely mysterious and someone to steer clear of since he was a Warlord. He was definitely stronger than he was letting on since the likeliness of a tall man who was a Warlord with a full crew to be weak is non existent.

What should I do? Kaito, think. You want to be a Warlord yet you are on a Warlord's ship. I should probably just leave already. I am a drag and I would rather get Warlord at a young age. I stood up looking at the sky then back at Corazon

He was sleeping so tiredly. You wouldn't believe this kind man was the brother of a Warlord. I quietly patted his shoulder as to wake him up. He didn't budge. I shook him roughly by the shoulders making him instantly wake up, looking at me with irritated and tired eyes

"It's so early. What do you want, Kaito?" he said in a quiet voice looking at me impatiently

"I decided to leave the ship. I just wanted to say good-" I started saying but he cut me off

"Why are you going to leave?" Corazon asked quickly

"I need to set sail sooner rather than later. I want to get my title quickly then just chill around" I said looking at the sky to avoid his gaze

"I see. Will you...go right now?" he asked slowly. I raised my eyebrows

"Yes. I was thinking of going right now so I woke you up. Sorry for waking you up" I said lightly bowing my head. He nodded and said

"Why don't you wake up Law? He really likes you, you know" when he said he likes me, I hung my mouth wide open

"Why would he like me? He probably likes you and you only- for good reason of course" I said sitting down

"Just do it. You don't notice how much h-he takes interest in everything you do" Corazon stuttered. I turned around to look at him fully and surprisingly he stared back

"You are cold, aren't you?" I asked and he shook his head. I sighed and said

"It's obvious. Just stop lying and tell me the truth" I said and he tensed then nodded

"Good. I'm getting a blanket" I said walking out of the deck. I quickly grabbed a blanket from the room that Doflamingo lent me and walked back outside. I quickly lifted the blanket in the air and lowered it so that Corazon's full body was covered which was quite hard considering his height

 He thanked me and I nodded. I walked over to Law and looked back at Corazon for reassurance. He nodded and I gently shook him to wake him up. He slowly opened his eyelids and then looked at me irritated

"Why did you wake me up?" Law asked angrily. I contemplated for an answer

"I am leaving and....Corazon asked me to wake you up" I said pointing to Corazon who was smiling like a 5-year-old- watching this scene with great interest

"So you woke me up for that?" Law said angrily turning and laying on his left while closing his eyes. I slowly stood up, nodding in defeat. I walked over to Corazon who was now stood up. I held out my hand and he grasped it. He quickly pulled me to his side and hugged me.

It was one of my first 'fatherly' embraces of sorts and it always felt nice. Happiness was like a jewel in the sea. Lost and hard to find yet once you find it- it's worth a lot. You could still lose the jewel at any time or get it stolen- just like happiness

He ruffled my hair as I was deep in thought. I reluctantly returned the embrace which seemingly made him happier since he was now crushing my ribs

"Bit tight.." I whispered and he weakened his grip. I laid my head on his chin and whispered in his ear

"Thank you for everything. I really do consider you a father. An amazing father at that"

He smiled like a madman and whispered back

"Me too. I really do consider you a son. An amazing son at that" hearing this. We both laughed at his attempt to copy me. 

"Is...Law okay?" I whispered as we melted into the moment

"I don't know." he whispered and we pulled away and sat next to each other. I laid my head on his shoulder.

"I really hope he gets cured. You never know, I might find the cure" I said smiling looking at his face. He returned it but it looked very...fake. I just let it go, deciding not to comment on it

"How much I would love to stay here forever but I have things to do, you know," I said standing up and patting Corazon's head

"I have to go. When is your birthday?" I asked and he said

"February" he answered and I smirked

"We have the same month. But what's the date" I said looking at the sky

"23rd of January" Corazon replied instantly

"I'll be back by both of our birthdays so don't miss me too much," I said smiling at Corazon who smiled back

"Be quick" he said grinning
