[Nikki and Devin entered her room, the atmosphere heavy with the weight of unexpected circumstances.]

Nikki: [pondering, feeling a surge of conflicting emotions] "Sharing my room with Devin of all people?"

[Nikki turns around, noticing Devin's happy demeanor, which intensifies her inner turmoil.]

Nikki: [muttering, an internal lament echoing in her mind] "Why him?"

Nikki: [trying to regain control] "Alright, listen up. This is still my room and my house. So with that being said, you get your happy self on the floor." [points at the carpet, attempting to assert her dominance]

Devin: [amused, bursts into laughter] "Oh, sweetie, this will be fun."

Nikki: [rolling her eyes] "Devil is a lie."

Devin: [teasing] "Oh honey, didn't you know you're dealing with the Devil as we speak?"

Nikki: [attempting to diffuse the tension] "Lord child, I can't with you."

[Nikki proceeds with the mundane task of unpacking, finding solace in the routine. She grabs her laptop and delves into investigating more about her real parents. Printing out a plethora of information, she carefully compiles the papers into a binder.]

[Nikki grabs her keys, prompting Devin to inquire about her destination.]

Devin: "Where are you going?"

Nikki: [torn between a snarky remark and vulnerability, admits] "I just found new information about my real parents. Do you want to come with me?"

Devin: [with a smirk] "I thought you'd never ask, sweetie."

Nikki: [insisting] "Again, my parents didn't name me sweetie. My name is Nikki; get it right."

[Nikki and Devin descend the stairs, encountering her dad, Liam, and Raven.]

Nikki: [sharing the news] "We found some information about my real parents. We'll be back soon."

[Nikki and Devin drive to the provided address. They arrive at the house, and Devin remains in the car as Nikki approaches the front door.]

[A middle-aged woman, Marie, answers the door.]

Marie: "Who are you, and why are you at my house?"

Nikki: "I'm Nikki. I found out that you and James are my real parents."

[A middle-aged man, James, joins Marie.]

James: "What are you talking about?"

Nikki: [showing the papers] "I have proof. You are my biological parents."

Marie: "You shouldn't have come here. We made our decision years ago."

Nikki: "Do you guys want to get to know me? I'm your real daughter you gave up."

Marie: [angrily] "You are just like my stepkids. You just want money!" [yells in Nikki's face]

Nikki: [snapping] "I'm not like your stepkids! I don't want money from you guys!"

James: [trying to intervene] "Marie, hear her out."

[Nikki looks at James and smiles, but Marie's anger flares up.]

Marie: [preparing to slap Nikki] "Get out of here!"

Nikki: [defiant] "Bring it on. I'm not scared of no old woman like you who thinks you can disrespect me. I have proof you guys are my parents. Look at the paperwork!" [yells]

Nikki: [yelling] "Why didn't you guys want me as a baby? But I know it wasn't James." [sees James in tears]

Marie: "We were young and in love and didn't have time for a baby, especially after we found out it was a girl."

[Nikki and her real parents exchange further insults and accusations. Nikki has an emotional outburst, and Devin, hearing the commotion, rushes to shield her from harm.]

Devin: [standing protectively] "That's enough! You don't deserve her."

[The front door slams shut, leaving Nikki and Devin outside.]

[Nikki retreats to her truck, finding solace in Devin's comforting presence. Hours pass as she cries, expressing her disappointment and pain.]

Devin: "What happened, Nikki? Tell me everything."

Nikki: [takes a deep breath, launching into a detailed explanation] "It was horrible, Devin. I went there hoping for some sort of closure, or at least a chance to understand why they gave me up. When I got to the door, Marie answered. She looked at me like I was some sort of intruder. I told her who I was, and she seemed almost disgusted. James came to the door, and I explained that I had proof they were my biological parents. Marie didn't even care. She just assumed I wanted money and started yelling at me. I tried to defend myself, telling her I wasn't like her stepkids, that I didn't want anything from them except answers. James tried to calm her down and listen to me, and for a moment, I thought he might be on my side. But then Marie lost it completely and tried to slap me. I stood my ground and yelled at her, showing them the paperwork. I demanded to know why they didn't want me as a baby. That's when Marie said they were young and didn't have time for a baby, especially after they found out it was a girl. She was so cold about it, Devin. She didn't care at all about how much that hurt me. James was in tears, but Marie just kept pushing me away. I couldn't take it anymore, so I left. I just wanted to know why, but all I got was more pain."

Devin: [offering support and a comforting kiss] "I'm so sorry, Nikki. You didn't deserve any of that."

[Nikki and Devin return home. Nikki shares the heartbreaking encounter with her adoptive family. Their supportive embrace offers a glimmer of solace in the midst of emotional turmoil.]

[Nikki expresses gratitude for her chosen family while in her room with Devin.]

[Nikki locks the door, symbolizing a moment of introspection and closure, as she contemplates the echoes of the past and the whispers of an uncertain future.]
