EVEN THOUGH EVERYONE WHO KNEW HER WOULD SAY SHE COULD GET ANYONE TO LIKE HER, Luna would obviously disagree; if that were true, she would still have a boyfriend. However, it was true that the pack loved her, which was why she was raiding their cabinets for snacks. They'd stocked it up as they saw she was coming over more often, so much so that they bought the snacks she specifically liked the most.
There was an entire shelf of sweets, mostly candy, to her delight and her teeth's dismay. She reached up to grab a pack of Skittles from the top shelf, balancing precariously on a step stool. The candy felt cold and comforting in her hand as she hopped down, the familiar crinkle of the plastic wrapper a small comfort in an otherwise chaotic mind.
"You could have gotten this for me instead of watching me struggle," Luna huffed, glaring at Jake, who leaned casually against the counter, smirking at her.
Jake shrugged, the smirk never leaving his face. "But it's so much more fun watching you work for it."
Luna rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips. "So, when are you gonna tell Bella?" The question slipped out almost casually, but the tension in her voice betrayed the weight behind it.
The smirk on Jake's face faded, replaced by a slight frown as he avoided her gaze. "How would I tell her if I've been hanging out with you?"
Luna folded her arms, giving him a pointed look. "Hey, don't blame me! You're acting like me being here would make it any different. You're making excuses, Jakey-poo~."
Jake gagged at the nickname, and Luna's teasing was a brief reprieve from the tension. "I told you to stop calling me that." He swiped the Skittles from her hand, popping a few into his mouth as she gasped, clutching her heart dramatically.
"I also told you to get Emily to stop buying so many of these. She acts like you're royalty or something," Jake muttered around a mouthful of candy.
"It's not my fault; she likes me," Luna winked at him, trying to keep the mood light. But the seriousness of their conversation was impossible to ignore. "But, back on topic, stop beating around the bush and just tell her."
Jake groaned, his grip tightening on the candy, and Luna took the opportunity to snatch it back. "I don't want to drag her into all of this."
"Look, she already is." Luna's voice softened as she referenced herself. "She's one of your best friends, Jake. She deserves to know."
