◟ ✦ Biology, the root of all evil. ❞LUNA TOOK A DEEP BREATH as she walked into her next class, Biology. The fluorescent lights buzzed above, casting a sterile glow over the room. Lunch had just ended, and she already wished for the day to be over. The unease in her chest tightened, a constant reminder of the world she was trapped in—a world where she was always on edge, isolated, and struggling to find her place.
She felt a bump on her back—a sudden jolt that snapped her out of her daze. Spinning around, Luna found Bella standing there with Mike, who seemed perpetually glued to their side. Bella's concerned gaze met Luna's, piercing through the fog that clouded her mind.
"You okay?" Bella asked, her voice laced with genuine worry.
"Y-yeah, just tired, I guess," Luna mumbled, still trying to ground herself in the present moment. Mike walked around Bella, standing by Luna.
"Mr. Molina," the boy greeted.
"Hey, Mike," the teacher greeted back.
Mike tried pulling Luna into the class more, but she slipped out of his grip. He threw his hands up in compliance before going to his seat. Bella followed him, making Luna instantly snap out of her state.
"Bells," the girl sang, grabbing the girl's attention. "Haha, where you going," she whispered as Bella stopped.
"Um, Mike's my partner," she explained.
"You're leaving me," the girl pouted, making Bella chuckle. She barely knew this girl, but damn, was she a special case.
"You'll be fine," Bella reassured, giving the girl a thumbs up before going to her seat.
"Ah, yes. Miss Knight," Mr. Molina greeted her. Making the girl gulp and walk toward him, pass in hand.
As she walked toward her seat, Luna's gaze inadvertently locked with Edward's. He was sitting across the room, his eyes narrowing as the fan blew her braids back. His expression twisted, morphing from indifferent to disgusted in a heartbeat. He covered his mouth like she was some vile thing he couldn't bear to be near. A pang of humiliation shot through her, sharp and unforgiving. Had no one told her she smelled like the forest she'd woken up in? The thought clawed at her insides, but she forced herself not to react. Not here. Not in front of him.
Luna took a frustrated breath before passing the fan and giving the weirdo a break.
"Hi. Can I have your pass?" She gave him her slip. "Thank you. Welcome to the class. Here's your stuff, okay?" The girl nodded, grasping the materials. "And I got a seat for you right here, so come over." He said, gesturing to a seat, the only seat left in the class, next to her favorite person in the world. Note the sarcasm.
