"You don't have to... not anymore" ❞

THE NEXT DAY CAME, brought with it an undercurrent of anxiety that Luna couldn't shake. From the moment she woke up until the final bell at school, her mind was a whirlpool of thoughts and what-ifs. She knew that if she went through with this, everything would change. The secrets she'd been keeping close to her chest would be laid bare, and there would be no taking them back. She'd finally have to face the truth of what she was, what she had become. A life that was never meant to be hers had been thrust upon her, and now she was standing at a crossroads, wondering what this revelation would mean for her future.

Bella, always attuned to her best friend's moods, snapped Luna out of her spiraling thoughts just as she was about to drown in them. "Hey, are you okay?" Bella's voice was soft, but there was an edge of concern that Luna couldn't ignore.

"Yeah." Luna blinked rapidly, trying to shake off the cloud of anxiety. "Just thinking about all those weird animal attacks happening around here. Still kinda shook up about it," she lied, a forced smile on her face.

"Charlie's still shaken up about that. I mean, that was like his best friend." Bella's voice softened even more, and the two girls exchanged a look, both of them thinking about how devastated Charlie had been last night.

"Yeah, I kind of baked a cake out of nerves last night," Luna confessed with a small laugh, trying to lighten the mood. "But, I mean, it was Charlie's favorite, so I guess I'll give it to him. Maybe it'll make him feel a little better."

Bella smiled, her eyes warm. "Seems like you turn anything into something good. I'm sure he'll love it. Thanks, Luna."

"No problem," Luna replied, her voice trailing off as she noticed Edward across the lot. He smiled at her, and she immediately looked down, her cheeks flushing. "So, I'm gonna be home later than usual."

"Do you work today?" Bella asked, her tone curious.

"No, it's just... I'm hanging out..." Luna fidgeted with her hands, her nervousness evident. "With Edward."

"Oh really," Bella smirked, crossing her arms as she teased her friend.

"Bellaaaa," Luna whined, her face burning. "Don't make it weird."

Bella chuckled, clearly enjoying her friend's embarrassment. "I'm not! I just think you should ask him to prom."

Luna shook her head, the idea making her even more flustered. "I-I don't know. I don't really wanna go. Dances aren't really my thing."
