BELLA AND LUNA SILENTY SAT IN THE TRUCK after Embry drove them back to Emily's house. It didn't take them nearly as long to drive there as it did to walk. The boys hadn't noticed the tension between the girls as Jared hopped off the back of the truck. The werewolves yipped to announce their arrival.
Bella refused to meet Luna's begging eyes. "So... when exactly were you going to tell me you lost your powers." The brunette began.
"I-I was going to tell you... I just didn't know how." Luna stuttered, "I've been trying to find out what kind of supernatural I am." Bella didn't know what exactly to think or feel. She knew that there was something up with Jacob lately and that Luna was over there more and more recently. After finding out about vampires and her friend's weird condition, werewolves were the last thing she expected to learn about, and she was surprised she was taking things so lightly. However, she didn't think that both of her supposedly best friends were lying to her.
The human girl ignored her as Jared opened her door and joined Embry in walking toward the house.
"Pay up. She didn't puke," Embry said with a smirk, holding out his hand to Jared. Jared, annoyed, handed over five bucks. "If she's anything like Luna, she's tough."
The exchange barely registered with Bella. Her thoughts were consumed by everything she'd learned—vampires, werewolves, and now this. She had trusted them—trusted Luna—only to be kept in the dark.
"Hey!" Bella called after them, leading on the window. "I think we should go back and see if Jacob's okay."
"He'll be fine. I hope Jake sinks soem teeth in him. Serves him right." Jared argued. Sure, Bella shouldn't have started a fight, but it was obvious that Paul was out of line as he knew how important Bella was to Jake and Luna, and regardless of that, he almost broke a law. Everyone knew that he had a temper, and being a wolf made it even harder to control it. He couldn't hurt Bella with everyone there to stop him, but it didn't mean Jake couldn't hold him accountable.
"Exactly, Jacob's a natural." Embry mused. "You see him phase on the fly? I got five says Paul doesn't even touch him." He betted to Jared.
Luna got out of the truck and walked toward the boys when she realized that Bella refused to talk to her. Seeing her somber expression, Embry gave her a side hug while Jared roughed up her hair. The curly-headed couldn't help but chuckle as she playfully hit them and escaped. The trio stopped when they realized Bella wasn't following them as if she was contemplating getting out, "Come on in, Bella. We won't bite." Embry invited her inside.
