Taehyung frowned. "I thought you always, I don't know, knew, I guess," you mumbled.
"Wait, are you being serious?" You nodded. "There's no way."
"I-- I thought you knew." Tae ran a hand through his hair and turned around. He turned back in a few seconds, a frown on his face.
"You're kidding." You looked at the ground. "You like me?"
The grass under your shoe became very interesting to you as you nudged at it, fiddling the toe of your runners into the dirt. "Yeah?"
"Since when?" You looked up at him and shrugged.
"A while."
"How long is that?" You turned away from him.
"Taehyung, if you don't like me back, just say it, okay? There's no need to make me feel so uncomfortable." He put a hand on your shoulder.
"Y/N, it isn't that. I'm just really shocked." You sighed and he wrapped his arms around you from behind. You pulled your arms up in front of you to lock his arms against you, not letting him let you go.
"I guess it's been a while," you repeated, thinking about it. "Maybe since before we graduated high school."
"Really?"
"Yeah." He started to pull away from you and you let him, turning to face him. You quickly glanced at the watch on your wrist for the time, tapping it once. "We have art history, soon, Tae."
"No, I really can't believe you like me, y/n-- this isn't just like--" he rubbed his forehead and lowered his voice further and leaned into you. "We're best friends, y/n."
"So I take it you don't feel the same way?"
He shrugged. "I've just-- never seen you that way?" he questioned it as he looked around the school grounds. "I just feel like it's hard to see you in any way that isn't-- isn't my best friend."
"Right."
"We grew up together, you know?" You nodded. "Did you think I felt the same way?"
You looked up at him for a second and then let out a quick small laugh, shaking your head.
"No, no," you whispered. "I just thought-- it was time I tell you since, you know, you were gonna go after that other girl now."
"I'm sorry, y/n."
"No, it's fine." You began to walk towards the art faculty's building and he trailed after you. "We should get to class."
"Hey." He took your hand and turned you around. "Don't you think we should talk about it a bit more?" You shrugged.
"What's there to talk about?" Tae's forehead creased and you gave him a small smile. "You don't like me back-- it's okay. I'll get over it. There are plenty of fish in the sea."
"I'm really sorry, you know. You're great, y/n, you are."
"I know I am." He smiled and you turned and went back to walking. "Now let's get going before Yoongi decides to stop saving us seats."
Taehyung laughed and you ran towards the building together, just as you'd done many times before. The course was your favourite; art history. It was interesting and not much work and fun and you loved your class. It was small, the art program not being so competitive at your university.
All the students were pretty close and everyone knew everyone. You knew that the engineering kids could not relate. Yet, knowing everyone meant having most of your classes with everyone you knew.
There was no escaping Taehyung.
You really never thought that would be an issue before.
"You gonna go in?"
