Claire hadn't seen anything that was happening on Twitter all day.
To be honest, she stayed off of the app as much as physically possible. Updating the Sonic Hero's twitter with setlist and meet and greet times, answering a few fans questions when she could and then logging off as soon as that was done.
She found it useless to sit and scroll through the mindless opinions of people who didn't know anything other than what they had learned on the internet. But with that being said she knew that something was wrong the moment that Jawn came rushing up to her as she was packing up the merch tent.
"Jawn why do you look like you saw a ghost, are you okay?" she asks him quickly, concern filling her voice.
Just as Jawn was about to answer, Chris also came rushing up to the tent but he looked furious and Claire could not be more confused.
"Okay you look like someone died." she says pointing to Jawn.
"And you look like you want to kill someone, what the fuck happened?" she says to Chris.
"You haven't seen Twitter." Chris says thickly, and Claire shakes her head.
"I never see Twitter why would you even ask me that?" she asks him, getting annoyed with the vague information everyone seemed to be giving her, when all she wanted was to finish packing up and get back on the bus where there was AC.
It was bad enough that she was dealing with random rude teenagers all day, she still hadn't fully prepared herself for the fact that she was going to be sharing a bus with her ex for the next two days when all she wanted was to lay down and sleep until the end of tour.
"I'll finish up packing the tent, you go with Jawn. Awsten has some explaining to do." Chris says bitterly and both Jawn and Claire shoot him a look.
"What could Awsten of done on twitter that is this bad? I know you don't like him Chris but don't you think that's dramatic?" she asks him rolling her eyes and Jawn answers.
"It wasn't Awsten, it's Waterparks fans."
Claire grimaces, knowing that whatever was coming next was definitely going to be hell. But she couldn't help but find it ironic that just this morning the two of them had an entire conversation about how invasive their fans were and now they were doing just that.
She honestly didn't think that anyone would know who she was on this tour, the two of them had broken up before Waterparks was even a thought. So it confused her as to how these fans even knew who she was and she was painfully curious as to what any of them could possibly have to say about her on Twitter.
"Alright yeah, I'll head back to the bus now. You sure that you're good to do this?" she asks Chris who nods, dismissing her and she picked up on the urgency in the situation.
Claire grabbed her backpack off of the chair sat behind the table, before interlocking her arm in Jawns and making their way back to the bus.
Once walking inside she felt like she was walking into an intervention.
Collin and Awsten were sitting together on one side of the couch, and Otto and Geoff on the other.
She didn't know where the rest of the boys were but she figured they were out wandering somewhere or just watching another bands set. She was thankful that there wasn't anymore people on this bus because she felt overwhelmed as it was and definitely did not need all of that attention on her.
"Okay there's too many people on this bus right now and I am already anxious about what's going on." Claire says quickly, grasping the straps of her backpack in attempts to get her hands to stop shaking.
Awsten quickly gets up off of the couch, and Claire nods softly letting him know that he can come closer to her.
"Are you okay talking just the two of us?" he asks her softly, and she easily agrees.
Claire slides her backpack off of her shoulders, before making her way off of the bus and sitting down on the pavement like they had done a few days prior.
"You guys are making me nervous what's going on?" she asked him shakily.
"Jawn told me about the Parx fan that gave you are hard time earlier, I'm sorry they did that. But they took it to Twitter and well... here." he answers, unlocking his phone and pulling up twitter handing her his phone to scroll through what was said.
She reaches out her hand for his phone, muttering a quiet "thank you" as she begins to scroll, reading what went on earlier in the day today. It's not that she didn't believe Jawn but she never could of imagined that people would have these strong opinions on her.
"Verbally abused? You have to know that's not the truth." she says to him in disbelief, not understanding how the situation got so misconstrued.
"No no, I know that Claire trust me." he reassures her quickly and she relaxes slightly.
"If it's okay with you, I wanted to tweet something in response but I won't do it without your permission." he starts slowly.
"I just am not comfortable with sitting back and letting them tear into you like this, I know you don't need me to defend you. But I would like to." he tells her, making sincere eye contact with her.
Claire can tell that he is being genuine but is afraid that him saying something would only make it worse.
"Wouldn't that just make it worse?" she asks him softly, picking at the skin around her fingers once more and he shrugs softly.
"Online? Maybe. But in person, something like today wouldn't happen again I can assure you of that. Especially considering the fact they know that our tents are right next to each other none of them are ballsy enough to do something like that in front of me." he says calmly.
She is thankful for the fact that he is taking control of the situation in such a strong manner, but is saddened by the fact that it's probably due to this being something that he has to deal with a lot of the time.
"Alright." she says breathlessly.
"You can tweet whatever, is it okay if I unblock you so that I can see what's going on?" she asks him and he smiles at her softly.
"You're asking if it's okay to unblock me?" he asks with an eyebrow raised.
Claire laughs in response, pulling out her phone and unblocking Awstens account while refollowing it and then following the band page.
She refreshes her screen a couple of times when she sees the tweet pop up.
WATERPARKS: I am only going to address this once, so you better listen up. My past is not something that any of you need to concern yourselves with and that goes for the people in it too. Claire and I's relationship was, and still to this day is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. She did not do anything to cause the end of it, that was entirely my own fault. Some of us are still very good friends with her, and I will not let y'all come between that. Neither one of us had any idea that we would be on the same tour this summer and I would appreciate it if you would stop throwing accusations around. Leave her alone, she does not deserve a single thing that was said about her today and if I see it happen again I will not hesitate to block you.

Awsten: ALWAYS. SHE DESERVES THE WORLD.Claire was relieved to see that most of the responses were kind, the fact that Awsten was so quick to stand up to the very people who shaped his career meant the world to her.
She couldn't help but think that maybe, he had actually changed.
