Not Warriors- Awsten Knight

Chapter 39

"How far are we from your house?" Claire asks curiously as she mindlessly plays with rings on Awsten's right hand. 

"I was going to try and pretend like I know where we are, but I have no fucking clue. GPS says about 20 minutes though." Awsten says with a laugh, running his free hand up and down the steering wheel.

"Directionally challenged as always." Claire replies simply. a smile forming and Awsten scoffs. 

"It's the only thing I'm not good at." he points out and she looks at him with a smirk on her face. 

"The only thing huh? What are you good at?" she presses playfully and Awsten lets a deep breath out of his nose. 

"It feels like there's and undertone to that question my love." he says in a low voice, and Claire shrugs. 

"If that's how you feel, then take it as you while." she replies, turning her attention back to the road as Awsten releases her hand and places it on her leg gripping her upper thigh causing Claire to inhale sharply. 

"Seems like someone can't take what she's implying." Awsten says in the same low tone, and Claire shutters. 

"I never said that." she replies shakily and he lets out a low chuckle. 

"We'll see bear." he says smugly, releasing the grip on her thigh. 

"You seem like your head is somewhere else right now, are you okay?" he asks her, his tone becoming softer. 

"Yeah no, I'm fine. I'm just trying to put my brain into break mode, I've been working non stop for the last few weeks it'll be weird to have a few days that I don't have to do anything." she admits and Awsten nods knowing exactly how that feels. 

"I'm the worst at taking breaks even though I know that they're important so I understand that." he reassures her. 

"Do you think we're going to get a movie worthy interrogation from your parents?" she asks with a small laugh and Awsten shakes his head. 

"No I don't, I think they were just messing with us but overall they're happy to see us together. It probably wouldn't hurt to explain some things though." he replies honestly and Claire nods knowing that he's right. 

She lets out a deep breath as she sees Awstens house at the end of the street, and to her it all feels real now.

"We're really here and doing this huh?" she jokes breathlessly, and he nods. 

"You're not panicking are you?" he asks her cautiously and she shakes her head. 

"Aws no matter how nervous I get about us being us again, I'm by your side okay? I'm here for as long as you want me around." she reassures him. 

"I want you around forever Claire." he says as he pulls into his parents drive way, turning to face her once the car was in park. 

"You ready?" he asks her quietly, his mouth inches from hers. 

"Lets do it." she replies, leaning into kiss him. 

Awsten opened the door as Claire let out a deep breath entering his parents house, noticing that not a single thing had changed since the last time she had been there. 

"Hello? We're home!" Awsten calls out to the empty living room, shrugging when no one replied to him. 

Claire gasps when she sees a familiar black cat dart past Awsten directly to her. 

"Jet! Hi baby!" she says in a high pitched voice sitting down on the floor to scoop her up. 

Claire looks up at Awsten who is wide eyed, and she laughs.
