Awsten sat there patiently waiting for her to pick up on the reference of the title.
Claire looked up at him, her green eyes wide and watery. "You always said I was glitter." she says, her voice barely above a whisper and he nods leaning in to kiss her forehead.
"You still are." he tells her, "Do you want to hear the song?" he asks softly, and Claire nods eagerly.
Awsten starts to strum his guitar lightly, still smiling at her. "There's some references in here I want to see if you pick up on them okay?" he tells her and she laughs.
"Wouldn't be a song by you if there wasn't a reference or call back to something from the past." she tells him, placing her hands in her lap as she waited for Awsten to start the song.
"You can shred my lips between your teeth from fireworks to Christmas trees.
The present's not a present if you're not around, fling onto a topper when you're turned around." Awsten sings out, his vocals bright leaving goosebumps on Claire's arms. She sat there in absolute awe of the man sitting in front of her, she loved him so much it consumed every ounce of her being. She didn't ever think that her and Awsten would be back together, much less loving him more than she ever had before.
"So when you go trap the feelings we both know, line your ceiling love you so rough it burns my bones, my bones"
She smiled at him, at the words he was singing that directed explained the way that she felt about him.
"So when I go, fuck those stupid girls that don't mind their business hope you know
you're the only one 'cause I'd sleep on your sidewalk, your sidewalk"Claire giggles to herself softly, knowing exactly what this line was about and she was proud of him for getting to the point that he could talk about his feelings like this even if it was in a song.
"Let's call in (let's call in) sick to our phones (We'll be the big one) last call I (last call I)
sing on our phone (Sick to the bone) wanna be more than alone."In this moment nothing mattered to either one of them, in their minds they were the only two people at that lake sitting there in the heat of a summer Texas morning. The stress of going back out to finish tour, and the uncertainty of would happen afterwards was the furthest thing from on her mind.
Claire knew that they would have to face the very real truth of life after tour sooner rather than later, but she found comfort in the fact that she knew whatever happened they would face it together.
Once Awsten finished out the song, no longer than 5 seconds after putting his guitar down Claire leap into his lap hugging him tightly.
He let out a laugh, wrapping his arms around her back running a hand through her hair. "I take it you liked the song?" he asked, still laughing and Claire nodded unable to express the number of things she was feeling at the moment.
"I love you. I love you. I love you." Claire told him in between kisses she was leaving on his lips as she felt him smile against her.
"I love you more pretty girl." he mumbles, brushing her hair behind both of her ears, resting his hands on her cheeks.
"Fireworks to Christmas trees?" she asks him curiously, and he smiles brushing his nose against hers.
"Fireworks were the background on Airplane Conversations, Christmas trees because it's your favorite holiday. Plus there's the lyric in lucky people where I say happy birthday, Merry Christmas to the one I call my Mrs." he mumbles, leaning in to kiss her again soaking in every moment of her smile pressed to lips.
"Always the romantic Aws." she tells him quietly, returning the kiss.
"Fuck those stupid girls who don't their business?" she says with a laugh, and he leans back resting on his hands with Claire still in his lap.
"Okay so that one was a little petty maybe." he admits with a laugh.
"Oh just a little petty? Maybe we have different degrees of petty." she counteracts giggling.
If Awsten had the ability to freeze time, he would of right there and then. The two of them sitting there enjoying each others company was all he ever wanted and more.
"Did you like the song though?" he asks her, his tone less confident than before and Claire smiles as she takes his face into her hands leaning in.
"Would I be biased if I said it's my favorite song you've ever written?" she asks him quietly and he shakes his head.
"No I think that'd probably be fair." he replies, getting goosebumps down his spine at her soft touch.
"The is this Entertainment line, is that because there's songs about me on that album?" she asks curiously and the smile that graces Awstens face almost knocks the wind out of her.
"Smart and pretty." he mumbles, leaning in to kiss her again.
"Aren't we just full of compliments today?" she says with a small laugh, pulling away from him to admire the boy before her.
"What's that look for bear?" he asks her curiously, and Claire shakes her head smiling.
"I'm just looking at you bub, I like to look at you sometimes is that okay with you?" she asks in a sassy tone, squealing when Awsten grabs her by the back of the legs lifting them both up and walking towards the water.
"Awsten! What are you doing!" she shrieks and he smirks at her kicking his shoes off.
"I suggest you kick your sandals off." he replies not letting her go.
"Don't you dare." she says back quickly, and he places her down only to sling her over his shoulder walking towards the water.
"Shoes Williams." he says playfully, laughing to himself as she kicks them off as soon as his feet hit the water.
"Awsten come on! You can be serious!" she yells, screaming as he launches her forward into the water following right behind her.
Claire wasn't mad, she actually thought it was funny that he went through all of the extent to get them both soaked to the bones.
"Tell me, did you think to ask your mom to pack us clothes?" she asks playfully, splashing water in his face as he swims over wrapping himself around her like a koala.
Awsten smiles at her shaking his head, "Nah I didn't think I'd be throwing you into a lake today." he admits honestly, causing Claire to throw her head back laughing as she held onto him.
"Just a fun spur of the moment idea to get us both soaked before we have to drive 45 minutes back home?" she shoots back and he thinks for a moment before nodding.
"Yeah but we still have a whole picnic so we'll dry." he says matter of factly. "Hopefully." he adds on with a laugh.
Claire shakes her head smiling, "You drive me insane but I love you so much."
