"was something off to you yesterday?" i asked jayden as we sat at the traffic light waiting for the light to turn green. our mom invited us to dinner today so that's where we were headed. "like with mama?"

"kinda. india pulled me to the side while you and mama was awkwardly staring at each other and said you looked like you was ready to go." he told me. i love india, she really gets me.

"where was sean the whole time? doesn't he live there?" i asked.

"mama said he was at work." he told me, driving off at the green light. "i hope he at work today."

"you haven't seen him since that day?" i asked. i always thought jayden saw sean every year when my mom saw him.

"nah. nigga wasn't allowed to come to the visits when mama came." he shook his head.

"where's my niece?" i asked after looking in the backseat and seeing her car seat was empty.

"india took her to play with her cousins on her side of the family." he said.

"you never told me how you met india." i smiled. i was actually interested in how they came about. their little family was adorable.

"you never told me how you met kaiser." he retorted. "that rude ass lil nigga."

"he's not rude he just thought you were tryna get at me." i laughed. that day at the skating rink was the first and last time they saw each other, so he didn't know that kaiser wasn't actually rude at all.

"mhm." he said. "we here. brace yourself." he told me as he pulled into the driveway. "mama said she invited our cousins."

"what cousins?"

"alyssa and destiny."

"you fuckin' lyin." i hurriedly took my seatbelt off, not giving him a chance to stop the car before i jumped out and ran into the house. i was almost instantly met with gasps and screams as my cousins jumped up and pulled me in the tightest threeway hug they could form.

the "i missed you" and "you look so different" comments flooded in soon after and i couldn't do anything but smile. after giving my mom a hug and finally settling in, it was almost time to eat.

"nova could you do me a favor and go get genesis from her room?" my mom asked. i nodded and excused myself before making my way upstairs.

the first room on that hall was jayden's old room. curiosity got the best of me and i opened the door, seeing everything was the exact same from when he was a child.

"i wonder if my room is still the same." i mumbled, closing the door back and making my way down the hall.

i walked to what used to be the guest room, assuming it was genesis' room, and opened the door seeing no baby. i was confused as to why the room was still set up for a guest and not a baby. realization set in and that's what led me to check my old room.

my heart shattered when i walked in and saw everything had been changed around to fit a baby's liking. i tried not to let it bother me too much, feeling that would be a petty reason to get upset. i just couldn't shake the thought my room being the one that was changed around when there was an extra room they could've put genesis in. all my memories were just gone.
