"jayden.." my mother said shakily, "tell me my eyes are not deceiving me."

"no mama, it's her. it's nova." he confirmed for her.

before i could open my mouth to say anything i was engulfed in a tight hug. my mother stood there holding me, crying her eyes out and telling me how much she'd missed me.

by the time she pulled away, jayden, india, and amoura were all sitting on the couch waiting for us to join them. i took a seat beside amoura while my mom sat on the other side of me.

"i cant believe this." she sniffed, repeatedly dabbing at her watering eyes. "nova i spent years searching for you. the system was failing me, it was like nobody cared. i didn't know who to go to."

"it's okay mama." i slightly smiled. she still looked like the same strong woman i looked up to at 7 years old.

"no it's not! i feel like i failed you as a mother za'nova. i was supposed to be there for you and i couldn't! i felt like a horrible person making memories with only one of my children every year." she cried. "i'm so sorry, i really am." she pulled me into another hug.

i blinked my tears away before pulling away from the hug. i was tired of crying. i wanted to be the strong one for once.

jayden then stood from the couch, "where's genesis?"

"she's in her room." my mom answered. he nodded before making his way upstairs.

i furrowed my eyebrows in confusion, "who's genesis?"

"baby, there's a lot of stuff you missed out on." she grabbed my hand and put it between her own.

i was fully aware that i missed out on everything that happened in the last 11 years, so to me that was completely unnecessary for her to say.

"sean was released from prison a while back." she told me, referring to the man who almost took her life.

"i know. i saw it in the papers a couple years ago." i motioned for her to go on.

"and when he got out.." she trailed off and started playing with her nails, ".. when he got out he had nowhere to go."

"so..?"

"well you know we went half on this house. so technically it's his house too. an-"

"are you trying to say he came back to live with you and now y'all are back together?" i asked her as jayden walked down the stairs with a child who looked to be about one or two years old. "and now y'all have a child together?"

"well, yes." she confirmed. jayden passed the child to her while i squinted my eyes.

"are you serious? after all this man put you through you took him back?" i asked.

"nova i didn't have a choi-"

"how? you're grown you can make your own decisions." i said.
