Dinah's pov

I felt so numb. My mentor and best friend was dead. I didn't get to say goodbye. My last words to him were "Give it time. Everything was going to work out for the good." I was so stupid. I should have told Normani or Megan what he was going through. Him and his wife were getting a divorce. She found out that he had another daughter named Keke that he abandoned. Keke was older than Megan by a couple of years.

I took some time off from work. I just wanted to be alone. I did not want to talk to anyone I know. I did not want to see anyone either. I was going to a bar to get drunk. I pulled out my makeup. I did not want to be recognized, so I over exaggerated my features.

I arrived at the club and went to the bar. I ordered a drink and took a seat enjoying the music. "Crazy seeing you here. Detective Hansen. Where's Ally?"

Well shit. Not even fifteen minutes in and my cover had been blown. "Hey Normani. I don't know. I've been avoiding her."

She said, taking the seat next to me. She's wearing a black t-shirt with some jeans. She looked beautiful in casual clothes too. "Why is that? She is your fiancé."

I took a sip of my drink. "I deal with things better on my own. I had a complicated childhood. I was a shy kid that mostly stuck to myself. My dad basically neglected me. He would send stuff for the holidays, but that's it. My mom cared a little more. She still had a company to run. I always knew that I liked girls, and so did they. Once I confirmed their suspicion they arranged for me to marry another girl who just so happened to be my crush. So surely they didn't neglect me because of my sexuality. Four years ago, I learned that my mom isn't my biological mother. My dad got his mistress pregnant, and she decided to keep me. My dad sent her numerous threats and even offered to pay for the abortion. She wouldn't do it though. She did sign a legal document stating that he didn't have to care for the baby, me, in any way. He really didn't want me, but she did. Sadly, my biological mom died giving birth to me. He took me in against his will, and my mom legally adopted me when I was one." I was admitted to Normani.

"Time out. You and Ally are in an arranged marriage?"

Oh shit. Stupid alcohol got me telling secrets. "No, who said that." I lied.

"You just did." She put her hand on her hips.

"Shit. Don't tell anyone. Only you, Lauren, and Tori know" I held out my pinky, making her pinky promise me.

She wrapped her pinky around mine and shook. "I'm not. So have you ever thought about meeting your bio mom's family?"

"Yeah the thought did occur but I only have her first name. Malika." I chugged down the rest of my drink.

"Well that's all I need. I'm a lawyer and a damn good one at that. I have connections, so if you ever want me to search, just say the words and I'm on it." She grabbed my empty cup and slid across the counter.

"Okay, thank you Normani but I'm not ready yet." I admitted.

She handed me a bottle of water. "No rush. Take your time. I have to get back to work though, I'm supposed to be helping the second bartender tonight."

I grabbed the bottle from her and set it on the counter. "What? You work here?"

She chuckled and opened the bottle for me, motioning for me to drink it. "It's not like that. My sister, Keke, owns the place. She couldn't get anyone to come, so she asked me to fill in."

"Oh that is so sweet of you. How is she doing?" I took a small sip and put it on the counter.

She grabbed the bottle and poured some in my glass. "Good I guess. Her life really didn't change. She knows that she has two younger sisters now."
