Chapter 7 (Third Grade)

"Wakey Wakey sleepy head, time to wake up" Hailey says as she taps the young girl who is asleep in the double bed yet again, Lucie slowly opens her eyes and yawns "mommy me tired" she says. Hailey chuckles and replies back "well so am I, but you don't see me complaining, I have to go to work", the young girl nods her head and slowly gets out of bed.

Hailey helps get Lucie ready for school and then carries her down to the kitchen to have breakfast, the two sit down and eat in complete silence, but then Hailey notices Luciana seems more quiet than normal so asks rather Concerned "what's up pumpkin?" the young girl doesn't answer though and just starts to cry.

Hailey jumps up from the chair and goes closer to the girl "hey, what's wrong sweetheart?" she asks, the young girl then sobs back "I, I don't want to go mommy, I miss you". Hailey smiles sweetly at the upset girl and tried to comfort her "awe baby, I know it's scary but you have to go, plus mommy needs to work, I'm going to miss you too though, you know that baby girl, come here".

The two then hug for a moment, Hailey strokes Lucie's hair a little to try and comfort her, it works because the young girl then sobs "ok mommy I go but me take Pinky please " (pinky is the unicorn). Hailey smiles and answers "yes, yes you can take your unicorn with you".

1 hour later

Hailey just dropped Lucie at her first day of school, grade 3. Luciana started crying immediately which made it harder for Hailey but she did her best to ignore her, knowing she had no choice. She gets in her car and drives to the 21st district, when she walks through the door she is greeted by Trudy "morning Hailey, how's Lucie today?"

Hailey sighs and answers "not good to be honest sarge , first day at school and she cried the place down when I had to leave her" she takes a breath and adds "something tells me, this is going to be a long day". Platt then asks "how are you doing?", Hailey just shrugs her shoulders and answers "I'm fine".

When Hailey gets up stairs she is greeted by everyone, who is very happy to have her back. Jay then hugs her and says "good to have you back, partner", Hailey smiles back at him and thanks everyone "thanks you lot, good to be back". "Hailey a word please" Sargent Voight calls out, Hailey walks in and is greeted by a smile of Voight.

He then says to her "it's good to have you back, how are you doing anyway?" Hailey nods her head and answers "I'm fine sarge". Hank sees through the lie though and asks again "try again, how are you?", Hailey then sighs and takes a moment before she looks at Hank and tells him the truth about how she was feeling.

"Not great to be honest sarge, I mean it's just, its her first day at school, and she cries before we leave my place, then she cries the place down when we're at the school, but truth is sarge, I'm finding it hard too. I have to leave her there, and it's killing me knowing that she is probably so scared right now and I can't be there for her" Hailey opens up.

Hank smiles and replies supportingly "I know, but what you did for her, that was amazing, it's going to be hard, for both of you but this is the next step in life you both have to take. It will do her some good too, that way she doesn't form to much of an attachment to the point its unhealthy ".

Hailey then sighs and replies" unfortunately sarge, I think it's already at that point, she constantly wants to be with me, like all the time, she practically clings to me. I mean of course I'm not mad, I probably made things worse by always doing what she wants rather than what she needs but, when she is upset I just want to help her but now I feel she has gotten to close ".

Hank frowns and asks "I know someone who could help, if you want I could give her your email, she is a therapist but deals with stuff like that too. She might be able to give you some good pointers to help". Hailey nods her head and thanks him, she then leaves the office and cracks on with some paperwork.

Jay then walks over to her and he sits on the edge of he desk and says "I missed you partner", Hailey smiles and jokes "sorry but you have to share me now". Jay laughs and jokes "ahh yes, I forgot about that", Hailey playfully punches his arm and says "you jerk", Jay laughs and jokes back "hey, you love this jerk". The two both laugh with each other.

It ain't long before Voight comes back out his office and says "we got a case, come on, get ready and let's go", everyone then gets there coat, guns and whats not, and they all go running downstairs and head to there car with there partner. It's not a very long drive there but when they get there they find out some information on the case.

End of school

Hailey junks up all of sudden and starts grabbing her things when Atwater asks "where are you going in such a rush?", Hailey answeres him loud and quickly "first day and I'm late picking her up, I should already be there" she then legs it out the room and rushes to her car. Meanwhile Atwater and the others are laughing about it the scene.

Hailey doesn't waste anytime in starting the car and driving off to go and pick Luciana up, when she gets there she sees her little girl sitting on the steps out the front of the school with the teacher. Hailey goes running towards them and apologises to the teacher "I'm so so sorry", the woman teacher nods her head and smiles "no worries at all".

Hailey then kneels forward at Lucie and smiles at her as she asks "so, how was school?", the young girl smiles slightly and answers "OK mommy but me missed you". Hailey smiles and replies back as she kisses her on the forehead "I missed you too sweetness". The two then make there way to car, we'll Hailey carries her too the car.
