short lived peace - chapter 35

It had been 2 weeks. 2 peaceful weeks.

In some instances.

Peace for the Mikaelsons could be considered quite different to the regular NOLA local. Klaus and Astrid were on the same side again, entirely. They hadn't left each other's side since she had returned with news of the white oak.

Often their marital status weighed in on the attitude of the Compound, luckily for Freya things seemed to have been going swimmingly. A new day had dawned and life was progressing again.

Hades and Persephone sat in the ballroom with their elder witch sister, attempting to locate the red headed charlatan hell bent on taking down their family.

Miss Aurora De Martel had been too quiet lately.

'I can't see.. anything. It's like she's cloaked.'

Freya's voice seemed exasperated as it escaped her lips and Astrid put her head in her hands. Both siblings overlooked the Original wife with muscle memory concern as Astrid looked up.

'What?' She frowned and the two looked away.

Flashback.
Mikaelson Compound.

Freya had adapted to her brother's nocturnal senses and often stayed up with Nik since Astrid had become distant. Many a night now had been spent with them opposite each other and two glasses of alcohol in between them. Except Nik's wasn't bourbon.

It was rum.

Astrid's rum.

The siblings also often watched as the hybrid came home from a night drowning whatever sorrow had decided to haunt her that day. Bang on 3am, she'd walk through the door with her head down and hood up, avoiding eye contact with anyone which was typically unlike her.

'She's fraying.' Freya almost whispered as she sipped her drink.

'She hasn't snapped yet.' Klaus's leg was bouncing in concern. The evil hybrid never worried about anyone but his heart was soft for her.

His heart raced for her.

'Yes she has, brother.' The blonde's eyes didn't leave the hybrid woman as she walked up the stairs, 'She has.'

'No. I know her.' Nik shook his head but Freya interrupted her younger sibling, 'Look in the details. You do know her yet you spent a century without her. You both hone your anger differently.'

Klaus almost looked gobsmacked by her psychoanalysing as his lips pursed and he looked away, almost in denial. 'Klaus.' Freya beckoned his eye contact and he obliged.

'It's the angry people who've got fight left in them. She isn't angry anymore.'

With that, she stood up.

'Tell her you made Camille leave. Goodnight brother.'

Flashback Over.
Present Day.
Mikaelson Compound.

'Are you alright, love?' Klaus asked genuinely and Astrid smiled, 'Yeah I'm fine. I'm just trying to think of what to do.'

Freya smirked at the spark in her eye as Astrid's eyebrows suddenly raised, 'What if you had something with a stronger connection to her?'

'Great idea' Freya hummed and Astrid ran upstairs. The sister smirked as Klaus's reignited eyes lovingly followed his wife as she disappeared.

'That's my girl.'

A smile appeared on Freya's lips at his words and she stood up next to him.

'There it is.'

'What?' Klaus looked at her as she stayed with her eyes on the stairs.

'Her fight.'

...

'This lipstick should literally have her DNA on it. I snatched it off her when she wasn't looking.' Astrid came back downstairs and Klaus frowned, 'You stole her lipstick, love?'

'Yeah.. locator spell material?' She said casually and Freya shrugged, 'Smart. We were gonna have to track her at some point.'

'Exactly.' She grinned.

'How are you almost always one step ahead?' Freya questioned as she placed the makeup item on the table.

'I have no clue. Sheer luck.' Astrid shrugged before smirking at Klaus, 'Or maybe I'm just the main character.'

Nik's returned smirk radiated a terrifying power as Freya carried her spell on. Astrid watched on in heavy concentration as she shimmied around the table, taking Nik's hand which provoked a slightly parted lip and furrowed brow until she wrapped his arm around her waist, pressing him against her back and he smiled.

Nik placed his head on her shoulder and kissed her neck lightly, a delicate peck that Freya didn't even notice as he wrapped the other arm around her and carried on watching.

'She's not even in New Orleans.' Freya begun after opening her eyes, 'She's way out east near that abandoned town.. Fernier.'

'What the hell is she doing there?' Astrid asked as Nik shrugged, 'As long as she isn't near us then I don't care.'
