A/N - I see so many fanfics and oneshots where Mikasa is always the one providing, always the one giving affection and giving pleasure and giving comfort and treating the other person. Sometimes I hardly think some of you even think of her as a human being, with needs and emotions. I wanted to write a short where she gets love and comfort and affection and treated in return.

Relationships go two ways you guys.

"Mikasa."

"Mikasa!"

You called your girlfriend's name again as you tried to catch up with her disappearing figure. You guys had just come from a battle in Marley: one that had taken a toll on the remaining scouts. For the 11 hours you were out there fighting for your lives, you saw Mikasa work tirelessly, always pushing herself to kill every enemy and keep everyone safe at the exact same time. Sure she was an Ackerman, but you knew how far she really pushed herself; much farther than her blood borne powers ever take her.

That's what she did best, or that's at least what others would say. Saving everyone and killing everything all whilst keeping herself cool and disciplined. Everyone in the scouts and even the other regiments would applaud her physical strength and her ability to remain stoic and unfazed by everything. "It's because she's an Ackerman" they'd all say. "It's her best ability. Strength and power"

But you knew the truth. About her. She was shy, and generous, and kind; she was good at sewing and baking, and she loved flowers and watching frogs at the pond, and all she wanted for herself was peace and safety for her loved ones. Whilst everyone else saw the soldier: where they chose to see only the girl made of steel, you saw Mikasa for who she was under the layers of trauma and survival.

Just a girl

Leading you to this moment as you did your best to keep her in your eyesight as she walked into the scouts building away from everyone else. You knew the weight each expedition placed on her body and soul, and you always tried your best to comfort her. Only she ran away from you every time.

You saw her quicken her pace at the sound of your calling, and followed earnestly, trying to catch her before she shuts herself away indefinitely. As your turn corners through corridors you've never seen before, you watch her step through a door and close it shut behind her. You had never been to this part of the military compound before, and you held only the slightest bit of hesitation at following. But, she was your girlfriend. If not for your own sake, then for her's you would follow.

You step closer to the door and catch the faintest sniffle and a thump to the floor. Concerned, you creak the door open to reveal Mikasa curled up with her knees to her chest in the corner, and quiet sniffles and sobs coming from her direction.

"Mikasa" you say softly, closing the door behind you and approaching her with quiet footsteps. At the sound of your voice, Mikasa lifted her head and tuned away, wiping her eyes and nose with her hands.

"I'm fine. You need to rest; you pushed yourself really hard today and I don't want you to be fatigued." Her voice came out small and quiet, unusual from her usually calm demanding tone. You walked over to her spot on the floor and knelt down in front of her.

"It seems in not the only one who has" you say as gently as you can, tucking some of her shortened hair behind her ear. You knew how she blamed every loss, every misstep on herself, and you could see how far she strained herself to only fall back to the same thoughts.

She can't get her red swollen eyes to meet yours as her tears keep falling despite her desire for them not to. "C'mon Mika" you cup her face with your hands, making her meet your tender gaze.

She sobs quietly again, and you lean over to place a kiss on her forehead. "Mikasa, I know how hard you push yourself on these things. You've been through so much and you make yourself suffer it all in silence. But I'm here for you my love. You don't have to keep it to yourself."

Mikasa nearly starts to cry even harder, but she shakes her head and lets out a shaky breath. "It's okay y/n. I just don't feel well today. I'm fine." Her voice was weak.

You frown a little bit at her response and tuck yourself closer to her body, trying to share your warmth, and maybe get her to feel your love for her through osmosis. It hurt you seeing her so distressed. You wanted her to feel safety and comfort with you. You wanted to be able to take that crushing weight from her shoulders, and let her stand a little taller.

"Please Mikasa" you plead "you don't have to go through this alone. Let me care for you."

You could tell that your words managed to break through, and she let herself fall against your body, her head hitting your chest as she continues to cry. Sitting with her on the floor you rub her back as she lets all the stress out of her system, you reminding her that it's okay to feel. You could tell that she was a bit uncomfortable being so vulnerable, but you did your best to assure her that she was safe.

A couple hours later after she calmed down and felt okay enough to get up, you led her over to the showers so she could get cleaned up and dressed for bed. While she was washing up, you snuck into the kitchen and prepped a small meal of bread and cheese, and you even made a small pot of her favourite tea for her as well. Carrying the tray back up to her room, you open the door to your girlfriend seated on the edge of her bed, rubbing her wet hair with a towel. At the sound of the door closing, she looks up and manages a small smile when she sees you. You can see the exhaustion in her face and on her shoulders, and after putting the tray down, you gently nudge her shoulder for her to tuck herself into bed.

When she had made herself comfortable, you grabbed the tray and set it down on the bed, pouring a small cup of tea as well. She insisted on seeing you eat as well, telling you rather than you being strong, it was to make herself feel better. You felt glad that she was starting to allow herself comforts in your presence, only if they were small.

For a while, you an Mikasa sat and ate, you trying to get her to open up, and her trying her best to be vulnerable with you. Your heart swelled at her effort, and you pulled her head to rest on your shoulder.

When the meal was done you held Mikasa as you played with her hair and spoke sweet nothings, occasionally pressing soft kisses to her face and hair. She held onto you with a tight grip, digging her face into your chest and snuggling you almost like a cat. You knew this calm comfort was exactly what she's needed all this time.

You watch her breaths get deeper and gather apart, and you can feel her hold on you loosen as her muscles relax and she finally falls into a calm sleep. You pray to every god that she is spared from any nightmares, and you lean up, careful not to wake her, and blow out the candle.
