"Yeah, he loves me but he fucks me like he hates my guts"
Modern AU
You massaged your temples as you hid in the supply closet at work. You felt the mounting headache as you tried to quell the shakes of anger that rippled through your body. You knew you were being overdramatic, but you were already overtired and your work environment did nothing to soothe your mood.
Much less the existence of one coworker in particular: Ymir.
She was loud, lazy, and straight-up rude. She never pulled her weight and would weasel out of any extra work that she had to do. She was unreliable and completely dislikable.
There was just one problem.
She was hot.
You couldn't explain your attraction to her; you genuinely disliked her as a person and even more as a coworker, but something about her unwavering arrogance and confidence drew you towards her. The way every aspect of her features just looked right on her, and the rare times you saw it, the way her genuine smile made your entire existence shift. It was infuriating because you knew that someone like her would never date someone like you; you'd seen the model-quality women she'd dated before: perfect blondes with perfect features, polar opposites in every way but still perfect together. Maybe your hatred for her was part jealousy part hatred for yourself and everything you weren't. But that's not something you ever wanted to unpack.
It was okay though because Ymir definitely didn't like you either. Though you didn't enjoy confrontation, you were always the one who called out Ymir and her slack on the job. That obviously didn't go over well with her, and she made up for it with the constant comments and jibes about- anything about you really, that she could make fun of. If she thought your outfit was stupid, she would say so. She would tell you how strange you were because of how quiet and reserved you were; would call you a corporate ass-kisser every time you mentioned how much work she wasn't doing, and would make a big deal out of every single slip-up you ever did. Her arsenal was deep and her reservation non-existent, and it made you both enraged and humiliated that she treated you like that.
You took a few extra deep breaths before re-emerging into the store, creeping back towards your department, hoping your disappearance wasn't noticed. You got back to work stocking the shelves, letting your mind wander.
"Hey Y/n!"
The sound of your name broke you out of your reverie. You turned to see your coworker Reiner coming down the aisle.
"Ymir is having a bunch of us over to her place after work for drinks; you wanna come?"
You thought for a moment about the offer. Honestly, the last thing you wanted to do was spend the night being passed off by your coworkers at Ymir's house of all places, but at the same time, you couldn't refuse the opportunity to see further into Ymir's private life through her home. It was a strange desire to want to know so much about someone you liked so little.
"Yeah, sure" you replied, hoping you wouldn't regret it later.
--- --- ---
You sat awkwardly on the far edge of the couch as all your coworkers laughed and shouted around you. You held a cooler in your hand and tried to laugh and smile along with everyone even though your presence was barely even noticed. To your left, your coworker Eren made what was supposed to be a joke, but wasn't really that funny, but the alcohol running in everyone's systems made it out to be. He erupted with laughter and swung his arm up, spilling some of his drink on your sweater.
