Rico's POV

Rico watched the game with quick eyes, trying her best to keep her eyes on you as you rip across the ice with the speed of a bullet. It was the last period of the game, and your team was losing, 5-4. She caught your figure in the thick hockey gear, passing the puck to one of your teammates. The other player tries to make a shot, but misses the net by a few inches. The puck is quickly taken by the other team, and in a few short minutes, it ends up in the other net, and the game ends, ending your team's last chance to go to the semi finals.

Your POV

As the final buzzer beeped, you could feel the adrenaline seep from your bones, and your heart sink to your stomach. You knew playing against the Trost team would prove difficult, but you and your other teammates practised hard to be able to advance to the semi-finals. As you crowded off the ice with the others, you felt washed by disappointed and you let your shoulders sink, as the rest of your team leaves the stadium dejectedly.

After taking off your uniform and stuffing it angrily in your bag, you step into the main hall and scan the crowd for your girlfriend, and let your mood rise a little bit when you see her pale copper hair in the fray. Hauling your bag over your shoulder, you make your way through the people towards Rico, and as soon as she spots you, she smiles and opens her arms. Without hesitation, you launch yourself into her embrace, and she wraps her arms around you, snuggling into your hair and rubbing circles on your back in comfort.

You let yourself relax, until you hear the whoops and cheers of the winning team as they leave their own change rooms. Some of the gathered crowd start applause, and you tighten your arms around your girlfriend, once again reminded of your loss. Rico shifts so that her arm was wrapped around your torso, and she guides you towards the door, leaving with others who came simply to watch.

The walk back to your car was quiet, but you let yourself feel the barest bit of comfort from the feeling of Rico's warm body pressed against yours. When you reach the vehicle, Rico grabs the big bag from your shoulder and throws it in the back, struggling a bit from the wight of your gear. She walks back over to you and opens the passenger door, signalling you to slide in. You knew she was buttering you up as she shut the door; she felt bad for you and you could see the pity through the lenses of her glasses. You knew she just wanted to comfort you, but you didn't want to think anymore about today's game.

She slid in the driver's seat and belted herself in, but didn't start the car. Her body was turned in your direction, and she looked at you with a gentle expression on her face. You kept your face tuned towards the window, hoping she would give up and leave you alone. A few moments later, you felt her hand rest on your thigh, and her thumb rub small circles through the fabric of your pant.

"Y/n" she starts, voice soft.

"I know you're disappointed y/n, you worked hard. Really hard" your head dropped to your chest in disappointment.

"But, I want you to remember, that all that work wasn't for nothing.  Yeah, it's unfortunate that you lost, but look how close you guys were! It was an intense game, and this loss just makes you guys stronger. Only those who can truly win, are those who also know how to lose."

Though her words seem a little corny, your heart swelled at her attempt to comfort you. You let a small smile break your sombre expression, and you place your hand on top of hers, turning finally to look at her.

"Thanks love" you whisper, and she smiles as sweetly as your favourite dessert. She finally pulls her hand away and starts the car, and pulls out of the parking lot.

"What do you say we go home, order some food, and cuddle on the couch? How's that sound?"

You smiled at her, excited for your new evening plans.

A/N: Hey guys, I know it's been over a month since I've updated, and I'm sorry. For the past while, I've been busy with moving out, starting school, and wrapping up my job. The job I was working at starbucks was god-fucking-awful and I hated it, and with moving away from home on my own, to starting school again in a new school and a new program (which is unfortunate but art school really aint want I was hoping it to be), my mental health has been actual dogshit. Like god awful terrible. It's really not any better, but I miss writing and talking to you guys and I am trying to get some stuff out. In good news, I've got a new Hanji fic, so expect that this friday.

How have you all been?
