Spring - Annie Leonhart

Springtime was your favourite season for many reasons; there was just something about the smell: that fresh earthy scent that indicated that life was starting anew and the days were getting brighter. The small green buds on the branches, the flowers beginning to bloom, it left you with a wonderful feeling of rejuvenation and joy.

It was a sunny Saturday in April and you had the day off from scout work, so you decided to meet up with your girlfriend Annie, and spend some well needed time together. The both of you had been bogged down with work and being in different branches of the military, you could not see each other as often as you would have liked.

It was rather funny how the two of you got together; you met while in training, and even though she showed herself as a cold and stoic personality, you knew the levels of her went deeper than that. You became fast friends and eventually you confessed to her, telling her how you felt. You still remember how high your heart soared when she told you she felt the same.

Now a few years later you both still loved each other the same.

Walking to the barracks where she lived, you thought if things you could do with Annie today. It was rather nice out, so you decided perhaps a walk in nature would do you both some good. Some time outside in the fresh air, and somewhere where you two could be alone.

Lost in your thoughts, you accidentally bumped right into her as she was leaving the barracks.

"Annie!" You exclaim with excitement. "I thought we could hang out today!" You continue, taking her hands in yours and dragging her away.

She said nothing but moved to catch up with you, squeezing your hands firmly in her own. You took this as a sign she was free and wanted to spend some time alone with you.

Annie wasn't the type to express her emotions, she was just naturally a stoic person, but you knew she cared about you. The light blush she would get every item you locked eyes or held hands told you enough.

Dragging her by one hand you took her to this small forest near by that was said to have some beautiful walking trails. Something you knew Annie would enjoy, and you just happy to spend time with her.

Following a trail into the woods, you and Annie walked in silence. It was comfortable and peaceful, and the only noise interrupting you were the birds within the trees. You two held hands and every now and then Annie would shift the slightest bit closer to you.

After maybe half an hour of idle chat and adventure, you see Annie perk her head up in the direction to your right. Saying nothing she begins to drag you in that direction, and you offering no resistance to her pull.

Eventually she leads you to this beautiful small clearing surrounded by trees, and full of flowers. It was a beautiful oases just for the two of you. In awe you begin forward, Annie quickly catching up as you head towards the middle. Gently you tug Annie's hand, motioning her to sit down in the grass beside you.

Taking a seat she looks at you and begins to blush slightly.

"Here, lie down" she says, her voice barely above a whisper. She motions you to lay your head in her lap, and you happily oblige.

The two of you sat there in the sunshine, Annie playing with your hair as you studied her face. The face you loved more than anything. Eventually she makes eye contact with you; cheeks blush red and pupils dilated.

Looking into her sky-blue eyes, you give her a gentle smile. She blushing slightly more and begins to lean down towards your face. You tilt your chin and close your eyes in anticipation. Eventually, a soft pair of lips grazes against yours, and you lean slightly up to bring her further in.

Of course you and Annie have kissed loads times during the years you've been together, but each one still fills your stomach with butterflies like it's your first kiss all over again.

The kiss is gentle and full of love, and you can't help but feel euphoric as you lay in Annie's lap, her lips pressed right up against yours. Eventually you two break apart, but keep your eyes glued together.

E/c eyes staring up into blue ones, you feel at peace on the soft grass in the sunshine, hearing the birds chirping around you, hidden in your secret little garden staring at the woman you love with all your heart.

"I love you Annie" you say eventually, unable to keep that thought to yourself

You didn't know it, but every time you said those three words, Annie's heart grew a few more sizes, and warmed her to the bone.

With a faint smile on her face she responds, eyes never leaving yours,

"I love you too y/n."
