// a.n. this is my first story, ya'll. hope u enjoy :) i'd appreciate it if you vote! //•~•~•~•~
The cold breeze hits my skin as I shiver ever so lightly. The scarf I wear on my neck offers me the slightest comfort as I walk through the ghost neighbourhood without a single soul around. I walked slowly, my eyes darting around everytime I spot light.
Ah, there it is.
I see the cafe that serve the best red velvet cupcakes in the world. The only reason that I even walk 30 minutes through this scary neighbourhood is because of that cafe, Jane's Comfort Cafe. It's worth it, though. So I don't really mind. Plus, I really like being alone sometimes.
The bell jingles a sweet sound as I enter the cafe. It brings such a warm comfort that opposes the cold weather outside. Brian, one of the two waiters of the cafe, greets me with a smiley hello.
"Back so soon, Dette?" He grins, knowing that I was here yesterday, too. "Yeah, I wanted your cupcakes. Plus I didn't have anything to do at home except some school works," I reply as I sit down.
Brian is a 29 year old man, with black hair and brown eyes, and has been my friend for 3 years now, ever since I've started eating at their cafe.
I see Christine, the owner of the cafe, walk through the curtain that leads to the kitchen, where a sweet smell is coming from. A sour look is plastered on her face while she mumbles something we can't hear.
"Hey, Christine!"
She looks up. There it is, her famous sparkling smile, and we watch as the spark of excitement coats her face. "Oh, my dear Claudie!" She says and runs up to me, hugging me. I laugh and hug her back.
"I missed you!"
"I was here yesterday." I laughed.
"Alrighty then, I'm gonna go prepare your cupcakes," she smiles sweetly.
When she goes back to the kitchen, she walks past Brian and sulks once again. Brian sighs. "I can never understand women," he sighs once again. I laugh softly as he murmurs something about his wife, Christine, and that's when I spot a little dog walking around, with it's leash hanging behind it.
I go out the cafe and tell Brian that I have to take care of something, and will be right back in a few minutes. It was shivering cold outside, so why was this little doggy walking around without an owner?
I approach it ever so slowly, scared to throw it off guard and run away. "Hey, baby," I coo. The dog comes near me, like it's grateful to find a living being in this lonely neighbourhood. "What're you doing here alone, little guy?" I ask as I pick it up.
Hiccup.
The tag says Hiccup. "Is Hiccup your name?" I say as I walk back to the cafe, and enter as the warm atmosphere covers my body. "Hey Brian, did you, in any way, see someone with this little dog? Poor creature, he was lurking outside." I state as a sit, with the puppy in my arms.
Brian turns around and his face goes pale. He sticks to the wall in an awkward position with his hands spread around on either side of him.
"C-Christine, honey, I think you might be needed here!" He shouts, never taking off his eyes from the dog. Christine struts to the front of the cafe and sees the little guy.
"Hey Christine, found this puppy outside, and I was wondering how he got here."
I wonder how. This was a neighbourhood that was a bit far from the city, a 20 minute drive and a 30 minute walk. It's impossible that he wouldn't have an owner here.
