Chapter 16: The Honored Guest; Red Dragon Pavilion Part 2
"What do you need the horse for?" One of the soldiers who was assigned to guard the entrance of Fengxian brothel asked Xin Yue with a suspicious gaze.
Xin Yue sneered and raised both hands while answering, "Hey! Don't be like that~ Madam Xingying permitted me to use them 'cause I need to go to the Red Dragon Pavilion."
The two soldiers glanced at each other before redirecting their gazes in Xin Yue's direction. "Everyone can use Madam Xingying's name. Give us evidence that she gave you her permission.
Xin Yue sighed grabbed the jade amulet inside his plain brown robe and showed it to the two guards. The two guards examined the jade if it was fake or not before handing him the leash of the white horse.
"Return the horse after you clean." One of the guards said.
"Okay, okay." Xin Yue accepted the rose and started to gallop in the direction straight to the north. At first, the tall thick trees of the mountain were seen until after a few miles of galloping, the tall thick trees were replaced by a wide and large lake that was the size of a whole noble's manor.
Xin Yue scanned his surroundings and spotted the lotus pond situated next to a large boulder beneath a tall tree. He nudged his horse and rode towards the Red Dragon Pavilion. The pavilion was of moderate size and adorned with dim lanterns on its gate. Behind the iron bars of the gate, there was a small lotus pond visible.
The Pavilion had a grand and luxurious name, but in reality, its appearance was modest and unassuming. The walls were painted a mix of red and black, and there was a lovely spring blossom tree planted beside the lotus pond. On the other side of the pond, a single jade lion statue was placed for decoration. Xin Yue dismounted from his white horse and took a step toward the gate to open it.
Xin Yue was surprised to find that the gate was open as if the owner was expecting him. He walked forward, holding the leash of his white horse, while the sound of swimming koi fish and the cozy breeze made the whole Pavilion peaceful. Suddenly, he heard faint footsteps inside the Pavilion, and Banyue appeared wearing a plain black robe to greet him.
Xin Yue smiled and waved. "Banyue! Don't mind me i'm just going to clean and leave after."
Banyue stared at him with a nod. "Mmn."
Xin Yue picked up the broom and rug that were hanging on the side of the saddle and scanned the surroundings. After a few moments of looking around, he furrowed his brow and scoffed. "What the fuck? There's not even a single clutter in here! What am I supposed to clean?!"
"You don't have to."
Xin Yue shifted his gaze at Banyue with a confused expression. "Huh?"
Banyue gazed down at him and repeated his words with a deadpan face. "You don't have to clean."
Xin Yue arched his brows. "...Then why am I here?"
Banyue remained silent and simply stared at Xin Yue, who leaned against the doorframe inside the Pavilion. Xin Yue scratched his head, surveyed the room, then turned his attention back to Banyue.
