Chapter 38: The Third Trial, Part 2

"Brother Yue, why are you yawning non-stop? Did you have a nightmare last night?" Guan Xiushi asked while fixing his robe.

Xin Yue grabbed a bite of the apple on his hands before replying, "I don't know. I feel sleepy. I suddenly woke up for no reason last night, and I can't fall asleep after that."

Guan Xiushi frowned and looked at his reflection in the bronze mirror. "Is it perhaps a ghost? Is someone haunting you? Did you make a terrible sin to someone?"

"What the fuck?!" Xin Yue scowled at him. "Why would I make a terrible sin to someone? Am I that kind of person?!"

"Hmm..." Guan Xiushi stared at him for a while before answering, "I guess so."

A plate was flying in his direction, and thankfully, Guan Xiushi crouched down to dodge the plate in time, or else the plate would've slammed and burst straight into his head. "Brother Yue, why throw a plate at me?! I was just stating a fact!!!"

Xin Yue looked at him in disgust and said, "Fact your ass; you're insulting me! My patience is short, but you're making it shorter! Don't blame me if you wake up seeing your soul separated from your body!"

"How mean!" Guan Xiushi cried out. "We're friends! Friends don't kill each other!"

"Friends, my ass!" Xin Yue yelled. "You've been comfortable with me these past few days, so you thought I wouldn't hurt you?! Tch! I could plant a bomb inside your body without you knowing and wait for it to explode!"

"But you never do that."

"XinYue stared at him with an exhausted expression and eventually heaved a heavy breath. He sat down on the bamboo chair and leaned his head on its top rail, then stared at the ceiling."I'm too exhausted to argue with you. Just fetch me some fruits that'll give me nutrients to recover my body."

"Fine." Guan Xiushi stood up and opened the door. "The third trial is about to start in an hour. Brother Yue should get ready and wear clothes."

"Mmn," Xin Yue responded while staring at the ceiling in a daze.

As soon as the door closed, Xin Yue clicked his tongue and stared at the window with a frown. "Come out. You've been hiding in there since earlier."

Soft rustles were heard outside the window. A few moments later, the window opened and a figure of a person came in. Her hair was long and as white as snow, as was her pale skin. She was wearing a small, plain white robe, and her features were soft and round. Xin Yue raised his brows at the child with an astonished face. "A kid? Why is a kid here?"

The small girl did not respond and only stared at him. Her eyes were platinum gold, as if they were a combination of the sun and moon. The small child pursed her lips and stood in front of Xin Yue. "Are you lost, kid? Where are your parents?" Xin Yue asked as he pulled the child closer.

The small child still did not respond and let herself be touched by Xin Yue; she just stood stiffly in a daze, staring at him with a blank expression. "Tsk! You're full of leaves! What kind of pathway did you walk to?! It could be dangerous!" Xin Yue scolded her as he brushed away the green leaves at the top of her hair.
