"You fucking moron!"
"I'm fine!"
"So he also got hit up the head, fantastic..."
"Fuck you, asshole! We can't just leave a fight because you are hellbend on the fact I'm hurt!"
"I can see the blood dripping down your leg!"
"I'm almost healed!"
"You need a doctor!"
"You need to calm the fuck down!" A pause, and then he adds "and a therapist!"
"Buck, not funny, you can't fight that way-"
"The hell I can't. I've had worse." The blue eyed man seeths, breaking Sam's heart. It must have shown on his face, because Bucky sighs, his face softens and he steps closer to Sam to raise his human hand up to Sam's shoulder. The movement strains against his wounded rib, but Bucky is right, the pain gets duller every second.
Still doesn't mean Sam won't drag him to a doctor after this shitshow is done.
"Look, Sam, we can't leave this fight. This isn't how it's done, alright?"
"I know that. But you can't just let yourself get hurt this much." He begs, pleads for Bucky to understand.
The man stays in the unknown.
"Wow, Wilson. It almost looks like you care." Bucky jokes, but, oh man, this hurts. This fucking hurts Sam so much, he can't breathe.
He does care.
Bucky knows that, right?
But he can't ask him that, because the supersoldier already bolts to the edge of the roof, only to jump right off and land on the other roof, where all the Flagsmashers are. Sam can't do anything but help his case, so he goes to help Bucky.
They fight tooth and nail not to hurt them, Bucky himself is on the defence, not raising fists and trying not to hurt the kids mire than necessary. Sam has read the Winter Soldier files and knows how difficult that is for Bucky since HYDRA only ever taught him how to hit harder.
The fact that he is hurt already, but still ready to try and be a better man than what HYDRA tried turning him into warms Sam's heart.
They work effectively, and Bucky gets the majority enough under control to put super enchanted cuffs on them.
Half of them caught, but the important one, Karli, is missing. If Walker or Sharon finds her first, they're fucking screwed. Sam is going mad with worries, his lip is bitten glossy with it, when a cold hand reaches up and places itself on top of his shoulder. The hand is cold to the touch because there is no blood circulating through it, and Sam turns around to see Bucky with a worried frown on his face.
"We'll find her, okay? Don't sweat it, she won't leave her friends alone."
Turns out Bucky was right.
Not even seven minutes later the two are fighting the read head, and they are winning!
Walker does pop up and, instead of fighting them to get to her, helps them. At Sam's questioning glance in his direction, Walker answers him with the fact that Lemar would have hated Walker, if he knew he hurt a child.
Sam thanks Lemar Hoskins for his heart of gold, where ever he might be right now.
Karli in chains is even more violent, and she headbuts Bucky, effectively breaking his nose. Tears make their way to Sam's eyes but he ignores them for the favour of treating his soulmate.
"Fucking fuck!" Bucky hollered, and his hands close up to fists to not make an attempt to go and hold his nose. Even Walker makes a sympathetic sound and winces in favour of Bucky's nose.
"I hate kids." Bucky moans and Sam laughs.
"No, you really don't. You love AJ and Cass."
"I do. But exceptions make the rules." He grins, but that must have strained his nose and soon he doubles over in pain.
Sam can feel that, won't let it show on his face though.
"Hospital." He orders and Bucky looks up in shock. "Now, James." Bucky's mouth hangs open now, and it takes all of Sam's willpower to not think of not those thoughts in that moment.
Bucky deliriously salutes half assed and walks off, mumbling something about a Captains voice, when a hard and dark voice pops out behind Sam.
He turns around to find a black woman in her late teens or early twenties stag over to them. Long, white dreadlocks curl around her big shoulders like a dream of clouds and her clothes are casual, but in a good way.
She ignores Captain America in favour to get into Karlis face and point a finger.
"You, My'lady are in big fuckin' trouble! And mine, but in massive trouble!" She seethes and Sam coughs to make his presence known.
"Who are you and are you authorised to be here?" He asks, his eyebrows so much in the air, they almost meet his helmet.
"I'm this bitches soulmate. My name is Ophelia." The woman deadpanns, only to return to Karli again.
"And the lawsuit is through. I'm your official guardian now. Try running away again, I dare you!"Sam's head is spinning so fast, he is sure to collapse soon. Karlis soulmate? Lawsuit? Guardian?
What?
He must have said that aloud, because next thing he knows, Ophelia is looking up to him and explaining it.
"Mr. Captain, I can't believe you never heard of the soulmate law. I gotta tweet about this, but first thing first.
So, I'm gonna use the laws rule Number fourteen and it says that if one can prove their soulmates instability of doing what is good for them and society, one can become their guardian or protector and decide what happens to them at all times. They get notifications as to where their soulmate is, what they are doing, etc. It's shitty, morally, but Karli" she whirles around to face the redhead "gave me no choice. She isn't overly fond of the fact she's attracted to women and decided to bolt instead.
So really, I did it for what's best for me, too, because I refuse to life without her now that I finally found her.
I know, Mr. Wilson, that you'd like it if she goes to prison, but I can't allow that." Ophelia smiles bittersweet, before taking off with the chained up Karli into the direction of the police cars.
Sam stares to where they marched off to and thinks about this lawsuit.
Seems like he's gotta do some research, get familiar with the law he has to protect now.
As Captain America.
Oh, what a day.
