"Excuse me, one cup of lemonade with ice here."
"Coming."
Hendery watched the girl going to and fro around the café, giving the customers their drinks and snacks as they played on their computers. Her addition to the café helped them a lot and Hendery couldn't be more grateful that she always volunteered to watch over the café whenever he and Kun were busy.
"How's your first week working here?" he questioned as the girl finally got to rest and leaned on the counter, passing him the dirty plates. She hummed, wiping away the sweats on her forehead.
"Still good," was her reply. The male acknowledged her response, turning around to put away the dishes as she stood behind the counter, watching him wash the plates.
"Are you close with Kun?" she asked subconsciously. Hendery bobbed his head, his hair framing his face moving along.
"He's our leader for our sub-unit."
Yoonna tilted her head quizzingly at his reply. He noticed her puzzled expression and chuckled, turning off the tap after the last plate was cleaned and dried his hands.
"We are one of the teams under CTechnology Company that offer students under NT School a chance to join. Our team name is NCT, since almost all of the players in the group graduated from NT School," he explained. "Me and Kun are in Wayv, the subunit that competes in China in the worldwide competition."
She nodded, finding the team name mentioned familiar but couldn't remember where she heard it from. "You guys graduated from NT School?"
"Kun ge did, I joined the company by applying from a different school." Hendery answered. "Why?"
Yoonna glanced up at him in surprise, shaking her head as she looked away and refilled a glass of water to clear the awkwardness she felt. "Nothing."
"Hendery," the two heard Kun calling out from his office. Hendery gave her a pat on the shoulder. "I'll go."
Yoonna let out a breath of relief that she didn't blurt out anything she didn't regret later. Turning around at the sound of the bell ringing at the entrance, she spotted a boy around her age walking in with his hoods on.
"Welcome, how can I help you?" she politely asked. The male silently glanced up at her and she noticed he was wearing a mask.
He looks familiar.
"Oh, so you work here," the familiar voice said and she frowned, not able to recognize the taller one in front of her but his voice felt so familiar as if she had heard it a few days ago.
She looked at him with a puzzled expression, slightly bowing again as she tried not to let her annoyance bounce off her. "Excuse me sir, I don't understand what you are saying."
She heard the male scoff at her words, turning around to scan the café before he glanced back at her. "Are you that desperate?"
Startled at the sudden rudeness from the boy even though she had done nothing to him, she raised a brow at him.
"I don't know who you are, and I don't know what have I done to make you come against me, so if you are not here for anything but to stalk me, I wish you the best and please, leave," she gestured towards the entrance, moving around the counter to continue her work as the male glared daggers behind her back.
He sneered at her statement, letting out a sarcastic laugh as he spoke.
"Who would want to stalk a low-life like you?"Yoonna froze on her spot, the words brutally stabbing her heart even though she knew did nothing wrong. Not wanting to cause a scene in the café on her second week, she faked a smile at him as she glanced over her shoulder.
"I'll ask for someone to serve you if that's what you want." She spoke before pacing to the staff's room and slamming the door shut.
The heck is wrong with him.
"Hendery, I need to go soon, I'm sorry. Tell Kun I'll make up for the time," she told Hendery when the latter entered the room to find her after he returned to see the counter empty with some customers waiting. The girl rushed out of the café, passing by the boy that was still standing at the counter watching her every movement.
Hurriedly, she left the place before a tear could slide down, feeling the suffocating memories wrapping around her once again.
No, Yoonna, you need to be strong for your siblings. Now is not the time to cry over the past.
"What did you tell her?"
Right after Hendery managed to finish the orders from the customers, he pulled the boy into the staffroom.
"I did nothing, she is just guilty that I exposed her," Haechan shrugged at the older male's doubtful glance.
"You better not pissed her off, Kun ge already had too many things to stress on and we don't need to lose another worker for the sake of this café," Hendery warned, pointing a finger accusingly at him.
"Kun ge did say that he doesn't want to hear a single complain from her regarding how we treat her or he will make us suffer during trainings."
Haechan snorted, "are you seriously defending a stalker? What's so good about her that even Kun hyung defend her."
Hendery frown at the younger boy, "what do you mean by stalker?"
"I met her that day during our third round of battle, and she just appeared everywhere I went. Specifically, my stalker."
"You are too full of yourself," Hendery facepalmed and decided to ignore the boy's claim of catching the girl stalking him and focused on the shift.
