Shen Yue put down her cell phone with a sigh and she rubbed her temples, tired.
After the disastrous dinner at her parents' house, her mother tried to call her millions of times, every day, but she never answered.
She still felt too angry to talk to her.
She didn't know if she was calling her to apologize or to scold her, but either way, she didn't want to argue.
As she was about to turn off all the lights before going to sleep, she heard Dylan's footsteps in the hallway.
She always recognized him...
She ran to the door and opened it.
And there he was, all dirty with work, as usual.
"Cutie! Are you still awake? You said you were going to sleep early" he told her.
"I was about to go" she smiled.
He watched her for a few seconds, then he leaned over just to look her in her eyes.
"Did your mother call again?" he asked.
Yue nodded.
"Did you answer this time?"
"No..."
"Love, you should really answer her.
I'm sure she wants to clear things up... I don't want to see you feel so bad about this. Call her and tell her we'll be back to them soon to talk calmly about the situation. I want to apologize to her in person."
"You're not the one who should apologize! It's them!"
"It doesn't matter. I just want you to be happy. I feel guilty about what happened... They are your parents and now more than ever you need them by your side."
Yue's eyes turned bright.
She loved Didi for that too... He knew how to be a playful child in need of attention, but also a serious and responsible man.
She took a step forward and tried to hug him, but he pulled away.
"I'm dirty!"
"Ugh! Then give me a kiss!" she muttered.
Dylan burst out laughing and left a quick kiss on her lips.
"Hey! What was that?!" Yue complained.
"Mmh... My little tiger is hot tonight..."
Sbam!
A kick.
"Ouch!"
"I'm going to bed".
"Can I follow you?" Dylan winked.
"Do you want a punch?"
"GRRRRR!"
"Stop it!"
"GRRRR! GRRRRR!"
Yue lifted her arm, but Dylan grabbed it just before she could hit him again and he pulled her towards him to kiss her.
A real kiss this time.
"I've been thinking about you all day..." he whispered, not leaving her lips.
Shen Yue felt the earth rock beneath her feet... That fool drove her crazy.
"Me too" she admitted.
"Can we sleep together tonight?"
She nodded with a sweet smile.
"Er er..."
Just then, in the corridor, someone appeared...
"Mom! Dad! What... What are you doing here at this hour?!" Wang He Di exclaimed, wide-eyed.
Yue immediately pulled away from him.
Messrs Wangs had been traveling and Dylan hadn't told them yet that they were a couple... And that she was pregnant. He wanted to do it in person.
"Well, when we got to the airport, we told each other that we have missed you so much these weeks... So we thought we'd drop by and say hello before going home" Ms. Wang explained.
"Aw! I missed you too! Come on, come in and have a cup of tea!" Dylan exclaimed happily.
As the boy opened the door to his apartment, Yue took a few steps back.
"Um... I'll leave you alone, I'll go to sleep. It was nice to see you" she said, embarrassed.
"What? No! Come with us! Darling, she's Shen Yue" Ms. Wang introduced her to her husband, who made a small bow with an affectionate smile.
Yue sought Dylan's gaze.
He nodded decisively.
So they entered the apartment and sat in the living room, where Wang He Di served hot tea to everyone.
"If you don't mind, I need to take a shower... I have something important to tell you" he said.
"Sure, honey! Go!"
Messrs Wang were left alone with Yue.
"So you're the chocolate cake girl! My wife talked about that cake for days after she met you!" giggled Dylan's father.
"Really?!"
"Yeah... I have to admit you really impressed me" Ms. Wang smiled.
Yue blushed.
"If... If you like, one day we can prepare it together" she proposed timidly.
"Ooooh darling! That would be wonderful!" the woman exclaimed, her eyes full of light.
She looked a lot like Dylan. Same baby eyes and delicate facial features.
The three talked for a long time about the work of Yue and her family, then about the journey of Messrs. Wang.
As soon as the bathroom door was heard opening, Mr. Wang got up with an excuse and walked over to his son.
"Dad, do you need the ba..."
Before Dylan could finish speaking, the man pushed him back into the bathroom and grabbed him by the ear.
"What are your intentions with Shen Yue, huh? Don't be a idiot with her, Wang He Di. She's a golden girl!"
"Ouch! Let me go! Daddy!"
"I'm serious, Didi!"
"Let me go and follow me, ok?!"
Finally the man let go and Wang He Di rubbed his all red ear.
He glared at his father and motioned him back to the living room with him, where Yue and his mother hadn't noticed anything.
"There you are! Uh? What did you do to your ear?" Ms. Wang asked.
"Nothing, nothing..." he snorted, taking his place on the sofa next to Yue.
He took her hand and she looked at him questioningly.
One look was enough to understand each other.
It was time.
"Mom, Dad... Yue and I have been together for a few months" Wang He Di announced seriously.
"AAAAAH! I KNEW IT!" Ms. Wang yelled excitedly.
Dylan noticed his father's doubtful gaze and he squeezed Yue's hand a little tighter.
"Daddy... I'm not playing with her. I really love Yue."
The man's gaze became tender. Hearing his son speak of love was shocking.
Ms. Wang smiled.
"You know, darling, when you introduced Yue to me... I immediately understood that she was special to you. That day, in your eyes and in your voice there was so much sweetness! That night, I'm not joking, I prayed that my assumptions were correct.
You deserve to be happy, my child.
The life you used to lead... You know what your father and I think about it.
But now I'm happy knowing this lovely girl is by your side."
The woman turned directly to Yue, bowing to her.
"Thanks" she told her.
Mr. Wang did the same.
Yue was moved by the warmth of that family... She would have liked her parents to have welcomed Didi in that way too.
She got up from the sofa and gently interrupted the bows.
"You don't have to thank me... I love Wang He Di" she smiled.
Dylan walked over to her and wrapped her waist with one arm.
"There is also another thing we have to tell you. See... We... We are expecting a baby."
On another occasion, Dylan and Yue would have burst out laughing at seeing the faces of the Wang at that moment.
The open mouths and the wide eyes... It was not clear if that amazement was negative or positive.
"A baby?" Mr. Wang managed to say after a while.
"A baby. It was all... Sudden. But we're happy and can't wait for our baby tiger to be born" Dylan explained, beaming.
"A baby! So... I will become a granny! Dear, we will become grandparents!" Ms. Wang's voice was so loud it sounded like a bell.
Dylan's parents hugged both of them.
Yue was amazed to see how happy they were and how easily they accepted that news.
"How long? Oh, dear, we have to organize the wedding! And then look for a house! Your apartments are too small! Yueyue, you are not working, are you? You certainly can't be in too much contact with animals right now! It's too risky!"
"Mom! Calm down! Yue is not working. And... We want to wait a little before we talk about weddings and houses... One thing at a time" Wang He Di replied.
"But..."
"Darling, leave them alone. They are young, the world has changed" Mr. Wang assured his wife, who nodded, even though she hoped to be able to arrange the wedding of her son right away.
Needless to say, she was afraid of seeing Yue run away from their life... For once Didi had found a girl like her, she really hoped that everything would go well.===
The Wang visit ended in the best possible way. They left with the promise that they would always be ready to help Yue and Dylan, for anything.
Once the door was closed, Wang He Di took Shen Yue by the hand and together they walked to the bedroom.
They lay down and hugged each other in silence.
A hand of Dylan went down to caress Yue's face, then her neck, her shoulders, her hips, up to her belly.
"Are you ok?" he asked softly.
"Yup".
"Are you still nauseous?"
"Every now and then... Not now. And you? Are you okay? You worked late, you must be tired..."
"I'm great" he smiled.
Yue brought her face close to his to kiss him.
"My parents love you so much. I'm almost jealous" Dylan chuckled.
"You are right! They prefer me to you!" Yue teased him.
Wang He Di laughed and pinched her cheek, but soon he became serious again.
"You know... When I got out of the bathroom, my father came to ask me what my intentions were with you and he told me not to be an idiot."
"Really?"
"Yes. It made me think. Your parents think I don't deserve you... And my parents had the suspicion that I was just playing with your feelings. I hate that everyone sees me just as the stupid irresponsible and selfish womanizer. If I could go back, I would change everything. If I had behaved differently in these years, no one would have such a low idea of me. I would probably have more friends, my parents wouldn't have spent their lives worrying about me, you would trust me more and your family would think their precious little girl chose the right man."
Shen Yue was struck by that speech.
She sat up and Dylan did the same.
Facing each other, they looked into each other's eyes.
"You lived your life the way you wanted, doing what you thought was right... You don't have to regret it. The road you took led you to me, didn't it? And I fell in love with you even for your being so stupid! I know you, Didi. I know what you're worth and I trust you blindly. I'm going to have a baby with you, remember? A baby! I could have all the men I want, you know?" Yue said.
"I know, you don't need to remind me" Dylan muttered, annoyed by that rhetorical question.
"No, seriously, I could have anyone! Do you remember at the speed dates how many Likes I got?! All handsome men!"
"Are you trying to piss me off or comfort me, tiger?"
Yue laughed to see his grim face.
"I'm telling you... that I have chosen you. That I love you. That I love you so much. There must be a reason if among all the men I have met, in the end my heart has pushed me into your arms, right? You're the right man" she smiled at him.
Wang He Di looked down.
"Is there anything you would change about me?" he asked her.
"Nothing" Yue replied firmly.
"Nothing at all?"
The girl rolled her eyes and leaned towards him. She grabbed his shoulders and forced him to lie down again, then she leaned over and kissed him.
First gently, then more intensely.
Their lips parted only when they both ran out of breath.
"Nothing at all" Yue whispered as she stroked his face gently.
Dylan had no words to describe how beautiful she was when she looked at him that way. He could feel her love envelop every part of him, inside and out, like a warm embrace.
When she looked at him like that, Wang He Di felt to be perfect, invincible, unique... And more and more sure that his future, his life, would no longer have any meaning without Shen Yue beside him. Without that look full of love.
Yue felt a shiver go down her spine…Because Dylan's eyes were looking at her exactly as hers were looking at him.
She loved him. And he loved her.
Life was incredibly beautiful.
"Didi?"
"Yes?"
"Grrr!"
"Oh my God! Last time I heard that lovely sound, we destroyed the apartment and made a baby! I have to get ready!" Dylan exclaimed, wide-eyed.
They both burst out laughing.
That night the apartment remained intact, but the complicity and intensity with which they loved each other was the same.
Shen Yue loved Wang He Di. Wang He Di loved Shen Yue.
Yes, life was truly incredibly beautiful.Author's Corner
