Chapter 9

Baji Kohaku P.O.V.

I went to the car lot where Toman and Valhalla were going to fight. When I saw all the handsome guys gathering to watch the fight,I told myself once again that I could never join a gang, because I'd be in real trouble. I felt uneasy during the fight and I stood up when Keisuke arrived. I felt the blood drain from me when Kazutora stabbed him. I started to walk toward them when Keisuke dropped to his knees and Mikey started beating Kazutora. I stopped when Keisuke walked down, I couldn't hear what he was saying but I shouted when he stabbed himself. It felt like it didn't matter how hard I ran, I couldn't get closer. "You promised" I say, dropping to my knees beside him as Chifuyu holds him. "You promised you wouldn't do anything stupid!" I say as tears run down my cheeks. Keisuke smiles at me. "You know me" he says, but it's obvious he's struggling to get the words out. "Shh, don't talk." I say. But when I touch his cheek I know it's already too late. As Chifuyu screams in agony, I feel a piece of my soul disappear. I slowly stand up and turn around. Though Mikey already resumed punching Kazutora. "I'll kill you" I say softly but before I can reach them, someone grabs me from behind. "Don't... you don't want to interfere right now" Mitsuya says. I start struggling. "I'll kill you!" I shout. Mitsuya kicks my feet from underneath me, pinning me down with his knee on my back. "I'll kill you!" I shout again as I claw around to get up. I don't care for Takemichi getting in between them, shouting something as it all just passes me by. When Mikey picks up something from the ground I'm finally able to throw Mitsuya off me but he soon pins me down again.  Everyone starts to weep as Mikey apologizes to Keisuke for not upholding their ideals and my tears start to stream again. When the sounds of police sirens approach, everyone starts to leave. "A little help here" Mitsuya says as I still try to get to Kazutora. I don't know who grabs me, and who is pulling me with but when we're far enough from the scene I can't help but look disgusted at Chifuyu, Mikey, Draken and especially Mitsuya. "You have to bury your brother. You couldn't get arrested there, and let your mother lose two sons" Mikey says as I take my earring from my ear. I throw the earring in Mitsuya's face before turning around. "You all best stay away from me. From this day on, Toman has another enemy"

"Kohaku" I drift my eyes when mother takes my face into her hands. She smiles though her eyes are teary. "It's been two weeks. You have to get back to school" she says softly. Mom presses a kiss against my forehead when tears get in my eyes again. "I know baby. It hurts so much" she whispers. "But he wouldn't want you to stay in your room. He wanted you to work on your goals. So take a shower and get to school" she says. "Come on" mother pulls me out of my bed. I do as she says and take a shower. I dry my hair and get dressed in my school uniform but when I look in the mirror I just see him again. I sniffle as I tie my hair up in a messy bun. "Okaasan" I say as I walk into the living room. She's getting ready to work too. "I'm going to cut my hair" I say. She smiles slightly as she walks over. "Whatever you need" she says softly as she strokes an escaped strand behind my ear. "Go, you're going to be late" she says softly. "I feel so empty" I whisper. "I know.." mom says as she strokes a tear from my cheek. "But you haven't died my love. So start living" she says. "It feels like I have" I say. "But you haven't" mother says. "Go." She says. I sigh deeply as I grab my bag. "I'll be back" I say. "Have a good day" mother says. When I close the front door behind me, I close my eyes when I hear her cry inside. On the way to school I get nervous. I haven't seen Mitsuya since then, and ignored his calls too. I look up at the building but still walk inside. "He's back" someone whispers. "Has he been absent? He never is" another whispers. "Haven't you heard? His brother died" the first whispers again. "I heard it was suicide" a third whispers. "I heard it was murder" a fourth whispers and I close my eyes and ignore it walking through it. I should kill them all. "Kohaku!" I open my eyes when I hear Mitsuya's voice. I turn slightly to look at him in disgust before walking into my homeroom class, feeling my heart break once again. "Kohaku.. you're back" my home room teacher says surprised. "Yes" I mumble.

I light an incense at Keisuke's grave before sitting down in front of it. "I hate you" I whisper as I feel the tears on my cheeks again. "What about your pet shop hmm?" I ask. I lower my head. "Why did I have to promise to stay by your side, when you wouldn't stay at mine?" I sob. "Kohaku-san?" I hear behind me and raise my head again. "I'll give you five seconds to leave" I say. "I won't" Chifuyu says. He sits down next to me before placing half a container of Peyang yakisoba. Chifuyu starts sobbing as he talks to Keisuke. "I can't deal with this" I say standing up. I wipe the tears from my cheeks with my sleeve before turning around, only to find Mikey behind me. "Kochin" he says softly. "I'd rather not have you as my enemy" Mikey says as I walk past him. "I'd rather have my twin brother alive" I say as I stop walking. "As do I.." Mikey says. "Baji wouldn't want this..." he adds. I close my eyes as Mikey speaks the truth. "Take his place.." Mikey then says. "Be the new first division captain" he adds. I don't respond for a while. "I can't take his place.. it's not me... and it's too painful standing where he stood" I say. "Then at least join us.." Mikey says. I don't respond again. "Mitsuya would love to have you in his division" Mikey says. "It's not fair to break up with him because of what happened to Baji. It's not his fault" He says. "He stopped me" I say. "He prevented your mother losing two sons" Mikey says. I don't respond again. "Join us Kochin.." he says again. "I refuse" I say. "Think about it" Mikey says. I don't respond and walk away. "Damnit" I mumble as I walk off the graveyard. "Can't even visit my brother in peace" I add, rubbing my eye as I walk off. I pick up my cellphone as it rings but I don't say anything. "You picked up..." Mitsuya says. For a moment I don't know what to say. "Kohaku?" He asks. "I did" I say softly. "Can we talk?" Mitsuya asks. "We're talking.." I say. "Can I see you?" Mitsuya asks after a moment of silence.
