Baji Kohaku P.O.V.
It's my first weekend in this house, in this neighborhood. I don't know why but I feel nervous. For a little while I've been staring at the ceiling now, while I have to go downstairs for breakfast. I sigh deeply then finally step out of my bed. I brush my hair quickly and then slowly walk down. Uncle is sitting at the dinner table, drinking coffee while reading newspaper. Yua is in her little corner playing while Auntie is making breakfast. "Ohayo.." I say hesitantly. Both Uncle and Auntie look up. "Ohayo" Uncle says. "You can sit down, breakfast is almost ready" Auntie says. Hesitantly I sit down beside Uncle. "I found a high school for you, with a great arts program" Uncle says, folding his newspaper. "The director is a client of mine, he's going to ask for your credentials at your middle school but you'll probably get in" Uncle says. "That would be great. Thank you" I say softly. "You're welcome" Uncle says. The silence is awkward, and I see that I'm not the only one thinking that. "Listen.." Uncle says. "I can't imagine what you must be feeling, with your twin brother dying last month, and your mother dying now.." he says. "But I just want you to know that we love you, and we want you to feel at home here. So please do like you'd normally do, and don't be afraid to invite your friends over" Uncle says. "Thank you" I say softly when he softly strokes the back of my head. "There's just one thing" I say as Auntie straps Yua in her chair. "I never got to tell my mom, and I hope you won't see me any differently because of it" I say. Auntie and uncle both look at me curiously. "I'm attracted to men..." I say softly, looking down at my chopsticks. It's silent for a little while. "I know" Uncle says amused. I look up at him surprised and even Auntie is smiling. "My sister called me a while back, telling me that she had suspicions about you being gay" Uncle says. "Of course we won't look at you differently. In the end it's your happiness that matters, not if it's a girl or a boy that brings you that" Auntie says. My lips tremble and I look down again. "So okaasan knew?" I whisper. "She did. She didn't mind, she was just afraid that you were too afraid to tell her" Uncle says. Uncle ruffles up my hair. "Let's eat huh?" He says. I nod and quickly wipe my tears away.
I look out the window while listening to Yua sing in the backseat. "Isn't Shibuya a bit far for a play date?" I ask. "Normally yeah, but it's an old friend of mine so I've got the time to catch up with her as well" Auntie says as she parks the car near the playground. "Ko-Ko carry" Yua says. "My name is Kohaku Yua, Kohaku" I say as I take her from Auntie. "Haku" Yua says. "That's better than Ko-Ko" I mumble. "Ah she's already here" Auntie says as we walk up. I smile when I see Mitsuya sitting on one of the benches, watching his little sisters at the slide. "Is it okay if I sit over there?" I ask. Auntie follows my gaze. "Do you know him?" She asks. I smile slightly. "It's my boyfriend" I say. Auntie immediately smiles brightly. "Of course, go ahead" she says. "It's nice that he's watching his little sisters like that" Auntie says. "Yeah. He even makes clothes for them" I say, as she takes Yua. "Very cute. I'm right over there when you need something" she says. I nod and walk over. "Hello stranger" I say, as I sit down next to Mitsuya. "Heey" he says surprised as he sees me, but happily. "What are you doing here?" He asks. "Yua had a play date and Auntie convinced me to come" I say. "There's something different about you" Mitsuya says. "I came out to my Aunt and Uncle" I say. "Oh?" Mitsuya says. "They were surprisingly chill about it. And it appears that my mom already knew and was waiting for me to tell her" I say softly. "I bet that's as relief" Mitsuya says, leaning his shoulder against mine. "It is" I say. "Luna be nice!" Mitsuya says, raising his voice slightly. "Hakkai is coming later, you don't mind don't you?" Mitsuya asks. "No.. You didn't even know I would be here" I say. Mitsuya smiles and presses a kiss against my cheek. "I missed you" he says. "You saw me yesterday" I say amused. "Doesn't matter" Mitsuya says and I chuckle. "I missed you too" I say softly. "I didn't know you would be here" Hakkai says as he walks up. "It was a surprise for me too. You don't mind do you?" I ask. "Nah. You're a member of devision 2, aren't you?" He asks.
I sit on the brick fence, looking up at the stars. My breath forms small clouds in the air in front of me, but right now I don't care about the cold. "What are you doing out on this hour" I hear behind me, before hearing a lighter click. "What are you doing home in this hour? Shouldn't you be out making trouble?" I ask, turning myself slightly on the fence to look at him. "I didn't feel like it tonight" Ran says walking over. I take a moment to look at him. He hasn't braided his hair, and has a very lazy look on his face. "You alright?" He asks. "I don't know" I answer. Ran looks at me as he slowly blows out the smoke he just inhaled, but doesn't respond. "My uncle is a psychiatrist at a juvenile detention center" I say. "The same one that Hanamiya Kazutora is being held" I say."the guy that killed your brother?" Ran asks. I nod. "You didn't know that?" He asks and I shake my head. "It doesn't really matter what he does for work. So I get why he didn't tell me" I say. "Then what upset you?" Ran asks. "They asked him to take on Kazutora's case. In other words help him" I say. Ran doesn't answer for a while as he smokes his cigarette. "I do get why that is upsetting. What does he think?" Ran asks. "He doesn't want to do it. But he might not have a choice" I say. Ran throws his cigarette in the ashtray in his yard, he then reaches over and strokes my hair behind my ear. "You're gonna be alright" he says. "I know" I mumble. Ran turns my head toward him, pressing his lips softly against mine, kissing me. I pull my head back. "You took advantage of that" I say. Ran smiles. "I did" he says grinning slightly. "But if you really didn't want it, you would've pulled back sooner and punched me" he says. "You're a piece of work" I say jumping off the fence. "Hm did I scare you away?" He asks amused. "I'm not scared that easily" I say, looking at him. "But the next time you do something like that, you will receive a punch to the face" I say. Ran smiles amused. "We'll see" he says.
