Chapter 22

Baji Kohaku P.O.V.

I run down the stairs, and stroll into the kitchen. "I'm glad to see that you're feeling better" Auntie says smiling, handing Yua her sandwich. "Yes, much better. Thank you so much for your care" I say, bowing slightly. "Don't be silly, of course. You're family" she says. "Do you want something to eat?" She asks, as I open up the fridge and I pour myself a glass of juice. "No, I'm heading out soon" I say. "Oh? Where you off to?" Uncle asks as he walks in with a newspaper under his arms. "I'm going to buy Christmas presents" I say. "Chrissymas!" Yua says throwing her little arms in the air. "Yes, it's almost Christmas" I say, ruffling up her hair, making her smile brightly. "That's kind of you" Uncle says, as he sits down. "Hmm it's nothing" I say, putting my empty glass in the sink. "I'm heading out" I then say. "Alright,  be careful" Auntie says. "I'll be back" I say, walking into the hallway. "I put on my shoes, and grab my jacket and my keys before walking out of the house. "Ohayo" I hear a sleepy voice. I look up, while putting on a my jacket and see Ran in his pajama, messy hair, and a tired face smoking a cigarette. "You just now woke up?" I ask surprised. "I was home late. Where you off to?" Ran asks. "I'm heading off to buy Christmas presents" I say walking over to him. Ran smiles teasingly. "Am I getting one too?" He asks playfully. "Hmm have you been nice this year?" I ask. "I've been nice to you" he says, tilting his head slightly. "Hmm I'll think about it" I say, winking. "Can I at least get a kiss then?" He asks. I hesitate for a moment but then give him a quick kiss. "Was that it?" Ran asks grinning. I roll my eyes before kissing him slightly longer. "Alright." Ran says grinning. "Are you going alone?" He then asks. "I'm going with some friends from school" I say. Ran drops his cigarette in the ashtray. "Alright. Have fun" he says amused. "I will, behave" I say, walking backwards. "I can't promise that" he says grinning. I roll my eyes again and turn around to walk. "Shit" I mumble and start running toward the subway. I rush over and jump into the train. Right on time.

I'm holding a children's book about a cat in one hand, and a children's coloring book in the other. "You can't choose?" Mitsuya asks amused. "She likes cats, but I'm not sure if she enjoys a coloring book more of a book to read more" I say. "Won't she be happy that you bought her something?" Mitsuya asks. "Probably.. but I want to give her a gift that makes her happy" I say. "Well, have you asked your uncle or aunt?" Mitsuya asks. "No" I groan as I rub the back of my neck. Mitsuya then chuckles and places his hand on my upper back. "Buy her the coloring book. You can connect with her, and draw or color with her" Mitsuya says. "Thank you" I say smiling as I put the reading book back. "I never would've thought of it" I say, looking at him. "You don't have little sisters" he says winking. Well.. "I think pretty soon she'll feel like one" I say. "I think so too, so finding a way to connect with her is a good thing. Buy the coloring book, and some crayons or something" Mitsuya says. "I'll take this then" I say, putting the coloring book against my chest. "That was the last one huh?" Mitsuya asks. No, but I can't buy that with you.. "Yeah, are you finished shopping?" I ask. "Hmm yeah. Think I've got the most things ready." Mitsuya says, and I feel a little disappointed. "I'm going to pay for this, how about I'll treat you to something" I say smiling. "I'm not going to say no to that" Mitsuya says grinning. "Alright, wait for me" I say, before walking to the cash register. After I finish paying, I walk over to Mitsuya that's waiting outside. "Thank you for coming with me today" I say when I reach him. "No problem at all. I'm surprised you wanted to spend time with me" he says. "It's not surprising is it? I've always enjoyed spending time with you" I say. "I thought that you weren't for a while now.." Mitsuya says softly. "That wasn't it and you know it"  I sigh, and then look at him. "I can try to explain it, but I don't think I can.. at least not properly" I say. Mitsuya doesn't respond for a while then looks at me. "How about we go for some cocoa and cake huh? We can talk" he says. "Yeah let's go" I smile.

One of the things I like about Ran, is because he's taller than me, I can easily snuggle into his arms. And because of the oversized sweaters he usually wears I sometimes feel I can disappear into him, happily though. "So, did you buy me something?" Ran asks, as I'm snuggled closely against him. "You'll just have to wait and see" I say, closing my eyes and enjoying his warmth. "You're not going to tell me?" Ran asks and I smile when I feel his lips against my neck. "I'm not" I say amused. "I don't like surprises" Ran whispers as he places a trail of kisses against my neck. "Well that's too bad" I chuckle. Ran kisses me, and I kiss back. "I can't persuade you?" He whispers, kissing me. "No" I mumble. I kiss him again, and Ran pulls me closer as our tongues dance. "Are you sure?" Ran asks as our kiss stops and he presses a few more against my lips. "Yeah" I chuckle. Ran looks at me and the twinkle in his eyes betrays that he likes the challenge. "Did you buy me something?" I ask, running my hand through his hair, since it's not in braids. "Why would I tell you, if you won't tell me?" Ran asks amused, laying his head on his pillow. "Because you like me?" I ask playfully. "Hmm I do like you, very much" Ran says softly, stroking my hair behind my ear. I blush as it wasn't something I was expecting. "What are you getting all shy for?" Ran chuckles as he strokes my cheek. "I'm not" I say embarrassed and look away. "You totally are" Ran says, tickling me as he pulls me toward him again. "I'm not!" I say, hiding my face into his neck. "Okay baby, you're not" Ran chuckles, but I can hear a hint of sarcasm in his voice. I don't respond but I smile amused. "Come and hang out, on the 23rd" Ran says, and I feel his hand creeping underneath my shirt and stroke his fingertips up and down my spine softly. "You can see for yourself if I got you a gift or not" Ran says softly. "Sure.. and you get to see if I got you something" I say softly. Ran chuckles. "Yeah. But it doesn't matter. I just want to spend time with you" Ran whispers.
