Magnolia Potter was having a lovely sleep until the sound of rapid knocking was heard on the door of her "bedroom". She grumbled and sighed as she rubbed her eyes, but winced when the door was opened and a bright light was punching her in the face. She then heard the voice of her Aunt Petunia, who stuck her head into the small space and asked quietly, as not to alert her husband, who she was always on thin ice with.
"Magnolia, can you go wake up Dudley, please? I'm still working on his cake."
And making a tired yawn emit from her mouth, Magnolia sat up and squinted at the figure that was standing in front of her. She then nodded and sleepily got up, only to bump her head on the door frame as she was on her way out.
"Ow! I keep doing that, blummin' doorframe."
Magnolia hit the doorframe with her hand in frustration and then winced as her hand was now stinging from the impact. Petunia Dursley smiled sadly and glanced at the kitchen door that was closed before leaning towards her niece and muttering.
"I'm sorry, I hate the fact that you have to sleep in there as much as you do. But you know I'm scared of Vernon, he's frightening when he's angry."
Magnolia nodded and rubbed her sore forehead before patting her Aunt on the shoulder and suggesting.
"I know, Aunt Tuney. But you have to stick up for yourself some day. He may be bigger and stronger than you, but that doesn't mean you can't use other ways to defend yourself against him."
Petunia narrowed her eyes and stated, a little freaked out by the grin that was on Magnolia's face.
"You and your dark mind. It freaks me out."
Magnolia shrugged and replied innocently.
"I'm just saying, one day he might just accidentally walk into the knife that you're coincidentally holding. You never know."
Petunia tutted and shook her head, she then shooed the redhead towards the direction of the stairs before grabbing the wrapped present and giving it to the girl before telling her to hurry up.
Magnolia let out a playful "sir, yes, sir" and ran up the stairs, making her way to Dudley's room. She knocked on his door thrice before entering when she heard a "come in".
She smiled when she saw her excited cousin already up and ready. She let out a chuckle and teased.
"You're eager."
Dudley Dursley rolled his eyes and responded in a "duh" tone.
"Well, of course I am. It's my birthday today."
Magnolia's smile widened and she held out the wrapped gift, Dudley's eyes lit up and he lightly grabbed the gift before eagerly unwrapping it. The wrapping paper dropped to the floor and Dudley opened the little box, he then pulled out a custom pocket knife. He muttered out.
"Oh, well I wasn't expecting that. Thank you?"
He was grateful for it, but a little confused on why Magnolia would get him a pocket knife, he was only 11. The girl noticed his confusion and announced.
"It's for self-defence. You never know when Vernon might snap and do something that threatens your life."
Dudley's shoulders sagged and he responded back.
