Boxing Day night is when Magnolia Potter decided to take her invisibility cloak and sneak into the Restricted Section of the library. Everyone else who was staying at Hogwarts for Christmas, was asleep.
But she was still quiet under the invisibility cloak, thankfully, her slippers didn't make a sound against the concrete as she was light on her feet. And she had her wand that was lit up as her source of light since it was really dark.
And Magnolia was feeling mischievous. She couldn't wait to use more of her invisibility cloak in the future. But the fact that Dumbledore most possibly had the cloak ever since James Potter died, still made her feel uneasy. She made a mental note to be sure to mention it in her letter to Petunia next time.
Once Magnolia entered the library with a simple "Alohomora", she made her way to the restricted section. She then scoffed as the only thing that was keeping the restricted section "inaccessible" was a simple pull on the lock.
Wow, absolutely anyone could've been able to enter the restricted section, it just has a simple pull lock.
She quietly laughed to herself and entered before looking for the letter "F" for Flamel.
"Famous Fire-Eaters. 15th Century Fiends. Flamel. Nicholas Flamel. Ah ha."
Magnolia uncovered herself and placed the invisibility cloak on the shelf. She grabbed the book she needed and opened it up, but her eyes widened as the book started shaking in her hands and a face appeared and shrieked as it was coming out of the book. Magnolia winced at how loud it yelled and quickly slammed the book shut before putting it back. Though she regretted how loud she had closed the book, as it echoed.
I think I just had a mini heart attack.
"Who's there?"
Shit, it's Filch.
Magnolia whispered "nox" and the light at the end of her wand diminished. She hurriedly grabbed the cloak and wrapped it around herself. Filch's voice spoke again.
"I know you're in there. You can't hide."
I can, actually.
Magnolia made sure she was fully covered and spotted Filch holding a lantern as he asked.
"Who is it? Show yourself."
Magnolia slowly and quietly managed to get past Filch, and once he had walked further away from her, she quickly exited the restricted section and ran out of the library.
That was close.
Once Magnolia was out of the library, she jumped as Mrs Norris meowed. She looked down at the cat, who was staring directly at her. She then started to move towards Magnolia and the redhead cursed silently and backed away as quick as she could, heading down a different corridor. Only to freeze as she caught sight of Snape and Quirrell.
Snape pushed Quirrell against the wall and the latter stuttered out.
"Severus, I-I-I thought-"
Snape cut him off.
"You don't want me as your enemy, Quirrell."
Magnolia slowly moved around the two men and kept watching as she wondered what was going on.
"Wh-What do y-you mean?"
Snape replied back.
"You know perfectly well what I mean."
Snape then slowly turned his head in the direction of where Magnolia was standing. She immediately clamped a hand over her mouth to silence her breathing. She then slowly back away as Snape put his arm out like he was trying to grab something. But since Magnolia had backed up enough, his hand grabbed nothing.
Snape looked at his hand confused and Quirrell was giving him a weird look. Snape looked directly at her again, but turned back to Quirrell to continue threatening him.
"We'll have another little chat soon. When you've had time to decide where your loyalties lie."
Magnolia rolled her eyes at what Snape had said, but looked to see Filch walking up to the two Professors. He spoke once he reached them.
"Oh, Professors. Someone's been in the Restricted Section. I heard a loud yell and the slam of a book. That means there's a student out of bed."
Quirrell and Snape glanced at each other before running off in the direction where Filch had come from. The latter following behind them.
Magnolia turned around and stared at a door that was at the end of the corridor and curiously walked towards it. As she began to open the door, she hoped to Godric that there wasn't another three-headed dog or something.
Once she slipped inside the room and shut the door behind her, she spotted a large mirror standing in the middle of the room. She uncovered herself, but gripped the cloak in her hand as she made her way over to the mirror.
She stood in front of it, and like a usual mirror, her own reflection stared back at her. But some engraved writing at the top of the mirror caught her attention.
Erised stra enru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi.
Magnolia wracked her brain and tried to decipher what it meant. She knew that "Erised" is "Desire" backwards, so she started from there.
I show not your face but your hearts desire.
"Cool."
She stepped closer to the mirror and smiled with teary eyes as her parents showed up on either side of her. She had seen pictures of them before, but to see them fully, like they were there with her, made her feel quite sad because she knew they weren't actually there. That's what she desired most, her parents.
Her mother, Lily, stood to her left and was smiling at her. The two of them looked almost like twins. And her father, James, stood to her right. He was smiling too and Magnolia didn't even realise she was crying until she saw a tear slip down her face in the mirror.
"Mum. Dad."
The two adults beamed at her and she raised her arm and touched the mirror. Lily smiled sadly at her daughter, but placed a hand on her shoulder for comfort. Weirdly enough, it felt like her hand was actually there. But when Magnolia looked and touched her shoulder, it wasn't there. Her bottom lip trembled and she sniffed a little. She wanted her parents back, deeply.
She wished there was an alternative universe where her parents survived and they lived together, next door to Petunia and Dudley. All living happily.
But she knew that would never happen and it made her sad. She longed for her parents, and she cursed Voldemort for ruining her life. She also knew that she'd get her revenge someday. She had a feeling that he wasn't dead like everyone else was saying.
Magnolia looked back to her parents and sighed, a few seconds later, turning into a yawn. She was tired, but she didn't want to leave.
But then she remembered that she could come back tomorrow. So she whispered a good night and covered herself with the cloak again. She gave one last look and left with a heavy heart.
Magnolia was careful on her journey back and once she got to her dorm and put her invisibility cloak away, she climbed into bed and cried herself to sleep.
