16th November, a Saturday, and the Quidditch Match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
To say Magnolia Potter was excited, would be an understatement. She was so fucking ready to get out there and win the game. Which is why Ron, Hermione and Hanley were watching Magnolia as she munched on some toast, looking like a rabbit and unable to slow down as she was so energetic.
The three friends shared a look and Ron stated with a laugh.
"Blimey, Magnolia. Calm down. You've gone through six slices of toast in the last ten minutes, you'll end up throwing them up when you're in the game."
Magnolia swallowed the piece she was eating and replied as her leg bounced up and down.
"I know, but I can't help it. I'm just so excited. And I get the munchies when I'm excited."
Ron chuckled, but his face faltered when he saw Snape coming up to Magnolia. The man stopped and spoke monotonously.
"Good luck today, Potter. I hope you have that much excitement when it's Slytherin's turn at Quidditch. Do slow down on the toast, will you? Wouldn't want you vomiting it all over the pitch and the players. That would be an embarrassment."
Magnolia stopped eating the piece she had in her hand and smirked when he avoided eye contact with her and walked off. Well, more like limped, which Magnolia noticed and commented nonchalantly.
"That explains the blood."
Hermione looked at Magnolia and asked in confusion.
"Blood?"
Magnolia nodded and swallowed the sip of water she had taken before explaining.
"Yup. You know when Hanley and Ron saved us from that Troll? Well, when McGonagall was scolding us, I noticed a deep cut on Snape's leg that had quite a lot of blood. But he hid it when he caught me looking at. Anywho, I think-"
She's cut off by Hanley as he excitedly asked all in one breath.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking? That Snape let the troll in as a diversion so he could try and get past that three-headed dog? He probably got bitten, that's why he had a cut on his leg and is now limping."
Magnolia looked at the boy in amusement and muttered as she patted his shoulder.
"Breathe, Hanley. Breathe."
Hanley let out a loud breath as he had finished his ramble and blushed in embarrassment. But Magnolia laughed a little and replied.
"It does make sense that's how he got the injury, but I'm not too sure. I still think Quirrell is a bit suspicious. That stutter of his is extremely fake."
Hermione's eyebrows knitted together and she mumbled curiously, ignoring that last bit.
"But why would anyone go near that dog?"
Magnolia finished the last bit of her slice of toast and spoke.
"I mean, it's an adorable dog. Even if it has three heads.."
The other three look at her as if she's crazy, but they lean closer to her when she instructs them too.
"Now listen, I have gossip. So, the day I was at Gringotts, Hagrid took something out of one of the vaults. He said it was "Hogwarts business" and "very secret". He shouldn't have told me that because it just made me more curious and eager to find out what it was. But it was a small pouch in this massive vault. I mean, it was tiny. It could be anything."
Ron raised his eyebrows in surprise at the hot goss and Hermione wondered out loud.
"So you're saying.."
Magnolia finalised what she was thinking.
"That's what the dog is guarding, maybe it's even what Snape (or Quirrell) wants. It must be very important."
Once she finished speaking, she and the others heard an owl screech. They all looked up to see a snowy-owl flying in the air holding a very large package. It had gotten everyone else's attention and everyone watched as it flew over the Gryffindor table. As it got closer, Magnolia realised who it was.
"Hedwig?!"
She smiled brightly at seeing her precious owl, but got up and caught what the owl had dropped. And once it was in her hands, Magnolia immediately knew exactly what it was. A broomstick. She slowly laid it down on the table and Hermione muttered.
"Bit early for mail, isn't it?"
No one answered her possible rhetorical question, but Ron eagerly suggested.
"Let's open it!"
The four of them ripped the wrapping paper away at different places, but when they had gotten it open, they all stared at what it was in awe.
Hang on, is this the broomstick that I saw in the window shop in Diagon Alley? Well, probably not the same one, but the same type. A Nimbus 2000. Hell yeah.
Magnolia mumbled out.
"How ironic that I receive a broomstick on my first game of Quidditch."
A shiny broomstick layed before them on the wooden table and Ron's eyes lit up. He exclaimed.
"That's not just a broomstick, Magnolia. It's a Nimbus 2000!"
Magnolia nodded and wondered who got her it when she heard a chirp from her owl and looked over at the Professors table to see Hedwig getting petted by McGonagall. McGonagall smiled at Magnolia and the redhead's face brightened. She mouthed to the woman. Grateful.
"Thank you."
McGonagall subtly nodded at the girl and Magnolia looked away when she heard a snicker. She looked at Hanley to see him looking amused at a gobsmacked Oliver Wood. Magnolia chuckled and teased the teen.
"Careful there, Oliver. You're getting drool in your cornflakes."
Oliver ignored her, or possibly didn't hear her due to the repetition of "oh my god" that left his mouth as he continued to stare at the broomstick like it was the love of his life.
Even after breakfast did Oliver fanboy over the broom. Even more when she let him hold it when they passed it around the team for good luck. He didn't want to ever let go of it, but did when Magnolia reminded him that they had a game to win.
However, they had to get through Oliver's speech first.
