Thankfully, the journey to the zoo didn't take long and as soon as they arrived, Magnolia got out of the car, glad to not be in the tight space for any longer.

And since it was Dudley's birthday, he got to choose which section to go to first. And he chose the Reptile House.

The three kids went around the said place and eventually got to the snake enclosure. They stood there, just staring at a snake that looked to be asleep. And of course, Joshua had to disturb its peace and quiet.

"Make it move!"

Vernon, who was stood besides the blonde boy, knocked on the glass with his knuckle.

"Move!"

Joshua then got impatient as he banged his fist on the glass window.

"MOVE!"

Magnolia and Dudley spoke up in unison.

"It's asleep!"

Joshua let out a sigh and a "boring" before walking away to go bother another reptile. Vernon followed after him and Petunia stayed standing behind Magnolia.

And Magnolia, apologised to the snake, not thinking of anything.

"Sorry about him, he's a spoilt brat and an irritating kid. Plus, he doesn't understand what it's like, lying there day after day, watching people press their ugly looking faces in on you."

Petunia was about to ask her niece why she was talking to a snake when she got distracted by the snake winking. The three of them froze and glanced at each other, Magnolia asked in shock.

"Wait, can you hear me? Because that's weird."

The snake nodded its head and flicked its tongue at her, Magnolia's face lit up and she exclaimed with a big grin.

"Oh, shit! That's so cool."

Petunia scolded her niece.

"Language."

Magnolia quietly apologised before talking to the snake again.

"So, am I the first person to speak to you? I mean, if I am, that's super cool. But also sad because you've had no one to communicate with down here."

The snake nodded again and as Dudley was still frozen in shock, Petunia was thinking to herself.

She's a Parseltongue..

Magnolia asked again.

"Hmm, are you from Burma? That's what it says on this information card here. Do you miss your family?"

She held up a laminated card with information about the certain reptiles in there. But the snake turned its head and gestured to the plague that was on the wall. It read;

Bred in captivity

Magnolia frowned, feeling sympathy for the snake. She then added solemly.

"That's sad, I'm sorry for you. I never knew my parents either, but at least I got my Aunt Tuney and Dudley to keep me company. Do you have any friends-?"

"Vernon! Look! The snake's awake."

Magnolia's talking is cut off when she is abruptly nudged by Joshua. She yelps and falls to the ground, hissing at the pain in her side from where she was elbowed.

Dudley unfroze and went to go help her up when he saw her glaring at Joshua who was climbing up and was now pressing his hands and face against the window.

Petunia saw the girl's livid face and tried to warn her.

"Magnolia, take deep breaths. Remember, deep breaths. Don't get angry- Too late."

Petunia throws her arms up as the large glass window that was keeping the snake and the boy apart, suddenly vanished. And because the window he was previously leaning against wasn't there anymore, it made him lose his balance and fall into the enclosure with a splash from the little pond he had landed into.

Magnolia's eyes widened at the accidental magic she had just used and laughed a little as she saw the spoilt boy freak out from the snake who was inches away from him. He shook lightly and tried to move away as the snake slithered its way out of the now-open enclosure.

It made its way towards Magnolia who didn't look scared at all, Petunia held Dudley close to her and they watched as the snake slithered next to the redhead and hissed out.

"Thanks-s-s-s."

Magnolia smiled and nonchalantly replied back.

"Anytime."

The snake gave her a nod goodbye before slithering away by people's feet, causing havoc as people screamed and shouted, doing their best in trying to get out of the way of the snake who made its exit out of the reptile house.

Magnolia then looked back at Joshua to find the glass window back where it was before, making Joshua, who was about to get out, bang his hands against the window in panic as he was trapped.

She smirked in amusement, but stopped when she saw Vernon looking at her with narrowed eyes. Dread filled her face and she faltered, gulping in fear. Vernon hissed out.

"Up! Now!"

Magnolia quickly got up and stood close to Petunia as the workers soon got Joshua out. Dudley grasped Magnolia's shaking hand as they walked back to the car.

No one other than the sounds of Petunia pleading and trying to persuade Vernon that it was an accident, was heard in the car as it drove away from the zoo.

Dudley still held his cousin's hand as her leg bounced up and down as she bit her nails nervously.

Vernon dropped Joshua at his house and had to come up with an excuse as to why he was shivering with wet clothes. He then ushered Petunia and Dudley in the house before suddenly grabbing a fistful of Magnolia's hair and demanded as he slammed the front door shut.

"What happened?!"

Magnolia let out a cry of pain and tried to respond back as she tried to get his hands off of her.

"Ow! I swear I don't know. One minute the glass was there and then it was gone! It was like magic!"

Magnolia regretted the last bit as Vernon scoffed and opened the cupboard door. He harshly pushed her into it and she fell down onto her mattress. He slammed the door shut and locked it, he then declared through the vent.

"There's no such thing as magic!"

He shut the vent and stomped off, leaving Magnolia to rub her sore head and scold herself for being so stupid.
