Now sat in between Hanley and Hermione, Magnolia carried on her doodling from last lesson. But she kept getting distracted by Seamus, who kept repeating a spell.
"Eye of rabbit, harp string hum. Turn this water, into rum."
He stood up and glanced into the goblet, but when he saw that it didn't work, he tried it again.
"Eye of rabbit, harp string hum. Turn this water, into rum."
Magnolia sighed and looked over at Ron who was trying to ignore Seamus' constant chanting. She mumbled quietly.
"How much longer is he gonna keep doing that? It's giving me a right headache."
Ron chuckled before ennouncing.
"Not sure. But he did actually manage to do a weak tea yesterday, before-"
Ron is cut off when there's a big flash and a loud bang. Hermione jumps and they all look to Seamus who has managed to fuck up the spell. Others around start to laugh at his misfortune and Hermione wafts away the smoke that had come from the goblet.
Then there were squeaks and screeches coming from owls. Ron looks up and announces.
"Ah, mail's here!"
Magnolia and others look up too and all kinds of owls come flying in, carrying small packages and letters for students. Ron's owl drops a rolled up newspaper and some other things, but Magnolia didn't get anything.
That reminds me, I need to go to the owlery and write a letter to Petunia and Dudley. They're gonna be shocked that I was sorted into two houses instead of one. I'll do it when I have free time.
She then overhears Hanley ask Ron.
"Can I borrow this, please?"
He gestures to the rolled up newspaper and Ron nods. Hanley gives him a "thanks" and takes off the string that was tied around it. He unravels the paper and begins to read the front page. Dean then points out.
"Hey, look. Neville's got a Remembrall."
Hermione pipes up.
"I've read about those. When the smoke turns red, it means you've forgotten something."
The smoke indeed turns red and Neville states.
"The only problem is, I can't remember what I've forgotten."
Magnolia smiles and tells him as she looks him over.
"You've forgotten your robes, Neville."
Neville instantly looks down, noticing that he has indeed forgotten his robes. He then hurriedly gets up and murmurs.
"Thanks, Magnolia. I better get them before our next lesson."
He then turns and dashes out of the Great Hall, supposedly to go to his dorm to get his robes. Magnolia shakes her head with a smile, only to look at Hanley as he suddenly nudges her arm.
"Hey, Magnolia, look. Somebody's broken into Gringotts. Listen."
That had gotten Ron and Hermione's attention also and the three lean over as he reads out.
"Believed to be the work of dark Wizards or Witches unknown, Gringotts' goblins, while acknowledging the breach, insist nothing was taken. The vault in question, Number 713, had in fact been emptied earlier that very same day."
Hang on? Vault 713? That's the vault we went to and whatever was in it, Hagrid said it was "Hogwarts' business" and "very secret". Hmm, that's suspicious.
