Tommy POV
"Why can't we go to his house again?" Tommy repeated, walking towards the park. He play with a rock between his feet, still paying attention to the conversation.
Tubbo shifted uncomfortably, his wings ruffling anxiously. Paying no mind, he replied, "He figured it would just be easier to meet up instead."
Tommy nodded, understanding the reasoning. "Hmmmm... okay."
Tubbo set out a small sigh of relief before switching the subject. "It's been a while since I've seen you this happy." he commented, seeing the light had begun to return to his eyes.
Tommy looked away, "I finally found someone like me. I'm actually not alone in this world." He sighed, smiling slightly at the thought. Maybe he wasn't an outsider like he had originally thought. Maybe he actually had a place in this world.
Tubbo looked away, hurt filling his eyes. "You were never alone to begin with." he muttered. He just wished he could be enough for Tommy.
Tommy looked at Tubbo in surprise, unsure if he had actually heard that correctly. Did Tubbo blame himself for the blonde's unhappiness? "Tubbo I-" he began before being interrupted abruptly.
"Hey Tubs! Hey Tommy!" Ranboo suddenly appeared, a nervous smile painted on his face.
"Hey Ranboo!" Tubbo greeted, instantly acting like nothing had happened.
Tommy sighed, deciding to let it go. A mischievous look entered his eye as he thought of a joke. It had been a while since he had made people laughed. He wondered if it still made him happy like it used to.
"You know..." Tommy began. "Your name could be so much better if you added just one letter..."
"What?" Ranboo asked, completely clueless.
"Tommy no." Tubbo warned, immediately knowing what he was hinting at.
"Ranb-"
"Tommy!"
"Ranboob!" Tommy burst out laughing.
"Tommy! That is so mean!" Tubbo shouted, ready to defend Ranboo.
Tommy bit his lip.
He screwed up.
Now he's not going to want to be your friend.
Why do you have to ruin everything?
Tubbo looked towards the boy, his eyes widening as he saw Ranboo laughing. He was laughing so hard, he had tears running down his face.
"I'm sorry-" The blonde exclaimed, panicking a bit.
"You just don't hold back, do you Tommy?" Ranboo grinned, his nervousness fading away.
Tommy looked up at him in surprise. "You're not mad?"
"Not at all." Ranboo smirked.
Tommy let out the breath he had been holding, forcing himself to relax. "Well there's more jokes where that came from!" he exclaimed, almost falling back to his old self.
Tommy closed his eyes for a moment, ignoring the thoughts that passed through his brain.
Don't ruin the moment.
--------
The trio hung out for a while, enjoying just talking. They settled down on a bench on the edge of the park, waiting for school to start.
The three sat there in a comfortable silence, just happy to be there together.
"Tubs, what's it like to have wings?" Tommy said suddenly, looking up into the clouds with a sad look.
"Toms I've already told you-" Tubbo began, glancing towards Ranboo who was now staring at the ground.
"Tell me again."
"It'll just make you sad again." Tubbo shook his head, not wanting Tommy to lose himself so soon. He wanted him to be happy, even if it was only for a moment.
"No it won't." Tommy glanced at him. "Not this time." Not when he finally had someone he could connect with.
Ranboo shifted uncomfortably, looking around in search of some kind of escape. Anything from his topic. He scratched at his back, hating the irritation that came with the shirt.
Tubbo sighed, giving into Tommy's request. "Wings are basically just freedom. You can go anywhere all the time." His wings ruffled up, as if they were suddenly listening. "It's a part of you, something you would feel lost without."
Tommy closed his eyes, allowing the wind to wash over him. "I would give anything to have wings."
"Have you never had them before?" Ranboo questioned, his eyes wide at the idea.
"What? No-"
Suddenly school bell rung in the distance, chiming the usual tune. Ranboo jumped up, suddenly needing to leave. "I-I have to head home." Then without waiting for a response he quickly began walking away. He paused for a moment before meeting Tommy's blue eyes. "If you're really that interested in wings then look at the KJ Files. You might find what you're looking for."
Then without another word he began running, leaving them both in wonder of what he meant.
What were the KJ Files?
