Tommy POV
Tommy sighed, running his fingers through his hair. He laid backwards, allowing the grass to swallow him whole. He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to figure out what he could do. How could he find the right time when it wasn't something he could force?
"You alright Tommy?" Tubbo looked up from his book.
The blonde opened his eyes. "I guess."
"Still trying to come up with that plan of yours?"
Tommy rolled his eyes, sitting up. "Why do you say it like that?"
Tubbo put his book aside, his wings ruffling behind him. "I just don't want you to be disappointed Tommy... Karl is-"
"At least he gives me hope! At least he says there's some kind of a chance!" Tommy exclaimed, jumping to his feet. A strange smell filled the air, making Tommy stiffen.
"I'm just trying to look out for you like I always have!" Tubbo continued, also getting to his feet. "Why can't you-"
"Do you smell that?"
"Don't try to change the subject!"
"No Tubbo I'm serious." Tommy sent him a sharp look. Tubbo stood up straighter. Tommy's eyes widened as he spotted a dark smoke coming from down the street. "That's smoke!" he shouted, taking off towards the fire.
Tubbo took off, flying ahead to see the commotion.
Tommy sighed, trying not to think about it. Focus on what's happening, he reminded himself. He sprinted, racing past bystanders.
A huge fire engulfed an apartment building, the flames building with every second. Shouts and screams filled the air. People were still in there!
Tommy bit his lip, watchin gas the flames grew. A realization struck him. He could get his wings! This was heroic, wasn't it? He took a deep breath before running towards the burning building.
Suddenly he was grabbed by someone and dragged back. "What the heck are you thinking?!" Tubbo hissed, tightening his grip on the blonde's arm.
"Let me go!" Tommy said, struggling against his grip.
"Are you stupid!" Tubbo demanded, still trying to pull him back. "I'm not letting you go back in there!"
"I have to Tubbo!" the blonde begged.
"This has gone too far Tommy! You could get hurt! I can't-" Tommy finally pulled out of his grip, racing into the burning building. Tubbo shouted to him, demanding him to come back. The brunette tried to follow his friend, only to be held back by the paramedics that had just arrived.
"Hello?" Tommy called, covering his face with his sleeve. "Anyone there?!" He began coughing, the smoke beginning to fill his lungs.
"Help!" A desperate scream came from around the corner. He immediately spotted a little girl, clinging to a stuffed cow.
"I'm coming!" Tommy shouted, beginning to rush towards the child.
A creak sounded above him as a shriek sounded out. "WATCH OUT!" There was no warning as the ceiling caved in, directly on Tommy.
And everything went black.
