Tommy POV
"Who's them?" Tommy immediately asked, his excitement rising. There was someone who else who understood him. Tubbo bit his lip, still very cautious of Karl.
Karl ignored him, searching his shelves for a particular book. It took only a moment for him to find the book, carefully taking out. He flipped to a page before handing it to Tommy. "We're not normal."
Tommy stared at the book, skimming through the words carefully. His eyes widened, rereading the words again.
Phoenix.
He looked at Karl, not at all believing him. "What does this mean?"
"You know what a phoenix is, don't you?" Karl questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"Of course I do!" Tommy exclaimed. "But they're a myth, something made up by our ancestors."
Karl nodded, half agreeing. "I thought so too." He grabbed another book, this one an old leather journal. "But I have reason to believe they are very real."
"But you-" Tommy began, suddenly his eyes wide.
Karl stood there, grinning. Two wings appeared on his back, the edges burning with flames. The man smirked, amused by the blonde's bewilderment.
"You-" Tommy didn't know what to say. "H-How?"
Karl thought for a moment, shaking his head. "That's just it, I don't know. They just appear when it's time. Mine came when I rescued my best friend." The man chuckled, thinking about. "Sapnap freaked out."
"Sapnap?" Tubbo suddenly spoke up, his eyes wide. "You know Sapnap?"
Karl raised an eyebrow. "Why? Do you know him?"
Tubbo sighed, nodding. "I'm Dream's little brother-"
"I knew you looked familiar!" Karl exclaimed, studying the boy. "You look exactly like him, apart from the eyes of course."
Tommy was still in a state of shock. "I-I can actually get wings?"
Karl turned to him. "Of course you can. Though, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for the time to be right. That's the hard part." His wings disappeared into his back as he grabbed the book.
"H-How?"
Karl thought for a moment, putting the book back in its place. "Whenever the time is right. From what I understand you can't force it. You just have to let it happen."
"So there was no point in coming here. Can we go now?" Tubbo begged, tugging on Tommy's sleeve. "This place is creeping out."
"I want to know more." Tommy replied, glancing back towards Karl.
Karl looked at him for a moment. "There is nothing else to know. You just have to let it happen."
"And what if you're wrong? What if I just wingless?" Tommy questioned, tapping his fingers on his leg.
"Then I'm wrong." Karl shrugged. "You just have to wait and see."
