Cairo's POV

"She's so cute." I say as Katara runs back up the stairs with Nova in my San Diego home.

"Seriously cute." Megan says then one of the camera people show us the pictures she just took of Katara.

My wife, my daughter, Koda, Nova, Becky, and I are doing a photoshoot with all the stuff that'll be available to purchase once we launch the site for my NWSL Club, San Diego United.

Right now we're taking picture of the kits for the team.

We have a teal home kit, a red away kit, and a black third kit.

"I'm definitely gonna need these." Megan says.

"I'M READY." I hear Katara shout. "AH."

A millisecond later I hear repetitive thuds.

"CAIRO." Becky shouts causing me and Megan to bolt into the house.

"KATARA." Megan shouts when we see our daughter lying on the ground

"What the fuck happened?" I ask as I drop to the floor, take my shirt off, and try to stop the bleeding coming from my daughter's head. "Megan get my medic bag, Becky call an ambulance."

"She tripped on one of her shirts." Nova says as she holds up the shirt that Katara was just photographed in while Megan hands me my medic bag.

"Shit." I say then I kick in to medic mode and tend to my daughters injuries.

In the beginning of my coaching career, I got certified to be an EMT because I thought I'd need a back up job.

Luckily I haven't, but I've still kept up my certifications.

"Baby the EMT's are here." Megan says then two people in uniforms squat down next to me.

"Her name is Katara Rose Jónsdóttir, she's 8 years old, she's an omega, and her blood type is O neg." I say.

"And what happened?" One of the EMT's asks as they take over in tending to my unconscious daughter.

"She tripped on her discarded shirt then fell down the stairs." Nova says

The EMT's nod then they do their thing while Megan gathers her and I's phones and wallets.

Once Megan has our stuff, we follow the EMT's out to the ambulance.

"What hospital?" Megan asks.

"Willow General." The EMT says.

Megan nods then I kiss my wife before Koda and I get in the ambulance with my daughter.

"We'll meet you there." Nova says.

I nod then Megan, Nova, and Becky go get into a car so I look at my whining service dog.

"I know Bubba." I say as I stroke Koda's head.

Koda whines again then she rests her head on Katara's closest hand as I watch over my daughter while we head to the hospital.

When we get to the hospital, Koda and I let the EMTs wheel Katara out of the Ambulance then we get out and follow them into the hospital.

Once in the hospital, Katara is taken to a room so Koda and I follow then, once in the room, Koda and I sit down in the chairs and let the doctors look my daughter over.

After what feels like a year, the doctors and nurses finish with whatever they're doing then the head doctor comes over and explains everything.

"...We're getting a room ready for her and we'll take her up once it's ready."

I nod then the doctor leaves as my wife, Nova, and Becky come into the room.

"What?" Megan asks when she sees my dejected face. "What's wrong?"

I sigh then I look at my wife.

"Katara's in a coma."

"I fucking hate this place." I say as I pull up to the hospital where my daughter is.

It's been a month and Katara's still in a coma.

"I know Cai." Nova says.

"I'd rather just have Katara be cared for at my home." I say as I park the car.

"Well maybe we can talk to the doctor about that." Nova says.

"Maybe." I mumble then I turn off the car, get out of the car, get Koda out of the car, and grab the food we bought for us to eat.

After Nova and I have everything, I lock the car then we head inside the hospital and head up to Katara's room.

"Oh." I say when I see we have some visitors. "Hi."

"Hey Cairo." Tobin says as she waves from Astrid's lap.

"I would've got you some food if I'd known you were here."

"Keegan, Alex, and Hope are getting us food." Astrid says.

Great.

More fucking people.

"Oh." I say then I sit down next to my wife.

Once I'm sat next to Megan, I give her her food, then we eat lunch in silence while we look at our comatose daughter.

"Hey Cai." Keegan says.

"Hey Keegy." I say then I continue staring at my daughter while eating lunch.

Once I finish my lunch, I gather my wife and I's trash then I throw it away.

After I throw the trash away, I take Koda out to use the bathroom.

When Koda finishes her business, the two of us head back into the hospital then Koda pulls me towards the gift shop so we head into the shop and I let Koda choose a plush toy for her and one for Katara.

After Koda chooses the plush toys she wants, I take them from her, grab a soda for my wife and I and some snacks then I pay for everything before we head up to Katara's room.

Once in the room, I sit back down next to Megan while Koda hops up onto Katara's bed and lays with her.

"Here Bubs." I say as I put the plush toys near Koda.

Once Koda has the plush toys, she gives one to Katara then she cuddles her own toy as she falls asleep.

"Well that just made today a bit better." I mumble then I look at Astrid. "I haven't even made a SheBelieves roster."

"Already taken care of." Astrid says.

"Cool." I mumble then I look at my closest friend. "Nova."

"Yeah?"

"Can you call the Olympic people and tell them I'm not coming."

The Olympics are in two weeks.

I have been training, but only on the nights where I'm not staying at the hospital with my daughter.

I've used skating as a distraction.

"No." Megan says. "Don't do that."

"The fuck do you mean don't do that?" I say.

"Because you know that whenever Katara wakes up and learns that she was the cause of you missing out on your dream of racing in the Olympics again, she's gonna beat herself up for the rest of her life." Megan says.

"That may be true, but I'd rather be here when she wakes up." I say.

"You really want Katara to feel like shit for the rest of her life?"

Damn you Megan for being right.

"Okay." I mumble.

"Okay what Baby?" Megan asks.

"I'll go to the Olympics."
