Her Last Wish
Chapter Twenty One
Sang
(Tuesday)Yesterday, the good doctor wasn't at work. Not within the hospital anyway. When I asked the nurse if he was in, she just shook her head and said that he would be returning tomorrow. Well, tomorrow is here and I see him the moment I step off the elevator, a duffel bag on my shoulder with more bits Nan had asked me to bring for her.
The moment our eyes meet, butterflies swarm my stomach. So much so, I have to press a hand to the area in hopes the fluttering will calm. It doesn't.
What does calm them though, is the fact he dismisses me, which just instantly kills the butterflies. No smile. No wave hello. Just his eyes briefly meeting mine before he looks away and continues talking with a nurse. I worry my bottom lip as I drop my eyes to the floor and make my way past him and towards Nan's room.
I come to a halt the moment I step inside the room. "What are you doing?" I ask.
Silas smirks at me, closing the book. "He was reading to me, Pretty," Nan says, green eyes bright. She pulls the oxygen mask away from her face. "Someone has to read it to me as you won't."
I snort. "I'm not reading that book out loud." I tilt my head, looking at the cover as I move closer to the bed, putting the duffle at Nan's feet. "Wait. What's this? Grey?"
"It's newly released," Silas says. "It's the first book in Christian's point of view."
"We get to hear it from his point of view," Nan says with an excited smile. "It's a shame that I won't be able to read them all. You have to promise you'll come to my grave and read them for me, pretty."
"Absolutely not." I opened the duffle bag. "I am not reading that filth out in the open, in a graveyard, with the church a few feet away." But I'll have sex with a hot guy in the shed that's at the back of the graveyard, I mentally add. I'm a hypocrite.
I know I've immediately said the wrong thing the moment I look at Nan and find her smiling that dirty, wicked smile of hers. "Oh no?" She asks, her voice all innocent. "But you'll have sex there yourself, hmm?" Did she read my mind?
Yesterday when I got here, she straight away put the puzzle pieces together. There was no hiding my reaction when she pointed out my ridiculous but satisfied grin. Once she had remembered where I had been she only had to say his name for the heat to rise to my cheeks once more. The questions were answered.
My eyes swing to Silas. He's now sitting forward with his elbows on his thighs, arms hanging limply between his legs. That smile though; it's naughty, it's dirty and it's sexy. "Guess we know what put that satisfied, excited smile on Gabe's face yesterday."
Despite how his words come across, I can't find any jealousy in his tone of voice. Nor can I see it in his eyes. If anything, I think he looks excited. Maybe a little nervous, but excited.
"Oh, Silas. She was wearing the same satisfied grin on her face the whole time she was here," Nan says. "Didn't take me long to put the pieces together."
Silas chuckles. "I would have put the pieces together as quickly as you did, Rose."
"Okay, you can stop now," I mutter. I don't mind talking about sex with Nan, but with Silas? That's different because I want to have sex with the luscious Greek God. "I've got the things you asked for."
Nan looks at me, nodding her head before looking over at Silas. "Do you mind giving me and my granddaughter a moment alone?"
"Of course." Silas stands, stretching his big body out. "See you soon, Aggele."
