Her Last Wish
Chapter Twenty Three
Sang
(Wednesday)

I think I fell asleep. One moment I was watching the monitors and then next, I'm opening my eyes and looking into the most beautiful fire eyes I have ever had the pleasure of looking into. Victor runs his fingers through my hair and offers me a small smile. "Morning," he whispers.

"Morning," I whisper, bring my hand up to my neck to try and release the knot there. Falling asleep sitting up isn't the greatest thing to do apparently. My butt also feels super numb. "What time is it?" I ask, my eyes going to Nan. She's still sleeping, but her chest is rising and falling with each breath and the monitors continue to play their melody.

"Just after eight," he says, sitting down in the chair Nathan had occupied last night. I looked to where Silas and Kota had been sitting to find them gone. "They went home to shower. North, Luke and Gabriel are downstairs in the basement. Owen is with Sean. We've just got back from our assignment."

"Shouldn't you be sleeping?" I ask, wincing when my voice breaks. I pick up a bottle of water and take a few sips.

"I'll go home shortly. I just wanted to come and check on you."

I offer him a small smile. "You didn't have too, but thank you for doing so."

"You're welcome, Princess." He picks up a coffee that sits on the rollaway table that we had moved over to the side. "Nate said that you know about Rose telling us about your ghost bird status."

Do I have to talk about this? "I heard you figured it out yourself."

"I did. I just didn't have time to really tell the others before Rose did that herself." His eyes settle on Nan. "Corey's her tech guy and you met him Saturday night."

I nod my head. "Yeah." I let out a sigh and looked down at my hands. "Wil Winchester and I went to Ashley Waters together. I would almost class him as a friend...back then. I needed to use a phone so asked if I could use his to call Phil. The next thing I know Wil is telling me he's in the academy and his sister was saying he shouldn't be telling me. But Corey...he knew who I was. The things he said, the way he looked at me..." I trail off.

"Wil's a good guy. He just gets excited and then runs his mouth. It's adorable, until he says something to the wrong person."

I nod my head. "I just feel like everyone around me at the moment is in the academy. I've never felt so...left out I guess? I don't know if that's the way to describe it but I can't work out how else to do so."

"Why don't you come on an assignment with us?" He asks.

I was already shaking my head. "No."

"Nothing dangerous," he rushes out. "Owen has a pile on his desk that you could go through yourself to choose. Maybe once you get a taste of it..." now it's his turn to trail off when he sees I'm still shaking my head.

"Not while I have my ghost bird status."

"But it's not going away, Princess. It's still going to be there."

I swallow hard. "It doesn't have to be. If the person that made that status isn't here to be prosecuted for it, then there's no reason to keep it."

From the corner of my eye I see Victor's jaw drop open, his eyes widening slightly as the meaning of my words sink in. "Sang," he says softly. But that's it, that's all he says.

"I love my Nan, Victor. I'm not letting her spend the last of her days, weeks, in a jail cell. But when she's gone...there will be nothing to stop me from doing so." I turn my head and meet his gaze. "Maybe then the academy will leave me alone."
